Happy Days at The DogHouse!
Pet care experience
I have been living & working with dogs for the past 20+ years. My specialty has evolved into teaching dogs "how to be dogs!" What does this mean exactly? I, with the help of my 4-legged partner, help dogs learn how to socialize, play, and peacefully interact with other dogs. I am also 1/2 of a Pet Therapy Team and specialize in working, again in team with my partner, with children who have trauma issues thru art, reading, and play! We live most of the year in New Orleans, traveling to cooler environs during the summer/early fall. When home our doghouse is available 24/7 for off-leash play dates, daycare, & boarding in addition to some specialized evaluation/training for Pet Therapy protocol and certain types of Service based programs. My "partner's" name is Rin Poche. He just turned three and found me while I was living in Kathmandu, Nepal In the Himalayan foothills. He is a herding breed and I often refer to him as a Himalayan guide dog as he guides me gracefully thru life. He gets along with, or at the least wants to get along with, just about every sentient being he encounters. Sometimes he wants to get along with cats more than they'd like but he is easily put into his place by a claw to the nose. He also tried to make friends with a Maine skunk this summer. It didn’t go so well for him. We are usually hosting 1-3 dogs on any given day. When possible we like to meet you and your dog(s) in person at our house prior to the stay to make sure it’s a good comfortable fit for all. Rin does the majority of the vetting when it comes to this process. We enjoy daily off-leash walks and play time with up to 4 dogs and have found a multitude of options for these excursions around town. Of course we're fine just hanging out at home and contemplating clouds too.
Reviews
Louie came back thoroughly exhausted from his fun weekend at Woody’s.
Woody was very communicative and accommodating for Leia. We will definitely use Woody again.
Woody made Lucie feel right at home during Christmas, and he kept me updated with pictures and texts. She already misses him spoiling her! I will definitely call Woody in the future.
Daisy had a wonderful stay with Woody at his “Dog Camp,” which is is like a vacation home for your pup. Woody was available on short notice and asked lots of questions to make sure he could best care for Daisy. His own dog Rin was a great playmate, and Daisy came home tired and ready to go back another time soon. I felt totally comfortable leaving her in experienced and attentive hands - this has been by far my best experience with a Rover sitter yet. Absolutely recommend!!!

Information Woody P. would like to know about your pet
I'm not so specific about breed as I am about temperament. The litmus test has always been how your dog gets along with Rin-I'm just the witness. As mentioned earlier when possible we try for an initial meet-up before booking so you can meet both of us. In many cases I can get enough information from a phone call to identify if it’s a good fit if you’re coming from out of town. As far as I go this should tell you all you need to know about me when it comes to dogs: When I leave my home for the summer and advertise for house sitters in the description I include that it is mandatory that whomever stays at my house has a dog. This ends up leading the perfect people (and dog) to our house. We hope you and yours find us too!
A typical day
Most days we enjoy a trip to the levee between the Fly and Corps of Engineers bldg for some off-leash play/swimming and also regularly visit the end of the world dog run, City Park, and the lake. When we are home there is an open door policy allowing dogs to get comfortable either inside or out. Our yard is securely fenced in and we have not had a break out yet. Generally dogs enjoy being around our house and have no desire to leave and go anywhere else.
