All my good friends have four legs
Pet care experience
I am a recovering attorney, former small animal practice manager, former small animal emergency technician and former equine neonatal intensive care technician. I have been caring for others' dogs (and other pets) for over 30 years and have been owner of multiple dogs for over 25 years, both large and small. As I have closed my litigation practice, and my wife works in DC, I have the scheduling flexibility to start expanding my circle of furry friends, and in doing so provide you with the help you need, with experience you can rely on. As a longtime pet owner, I know how difficult it can be to find people who truly enjoy spending time with your pet(s) and who have the skills and reliability needed for your peace of mind. I would like to provide that for you and your pet(s), because it's never "just a walk" or "just a home visit;" it's time spent with a friend who is someone else's family member. We have all our guys on grain-free, gluten-free food and treats (with many treats being human-grade ingredients). I'm happy to adhere to whatever food/dietary guidelines you have for your dog, but we do like to give treats quite a bit :) For our boarders: My profile says "one dog at a time," but we are willing to take multiple dogs from the same family. I am home all day, which means I can take walks more frequently, have supervised playtime most of the day, and your dog will have someone around them for their entire stay. We have six dogs, but with over 5000 sq ft of finished space, we are able to allow as much or as little interaction between guests and our guys as needed/desired without putting anyone out. We like for our guys to participate with guests, but that depends on a number of variables, including what you want for your dog while a guest in our home. Guests in our home will be treated like family while they're here, including sleeping in the bed, sitting on the furniture and otherwise getting spoiled (unless instructed otherwise). There is a giant box of toys for guests to dive into, and as much playtime as they can stand. It's up to you how you'd like us to handle your dog, but left to our own devices, we tend to treat them just like one of our own (and pamper them a bit). I am happy to include additional services like baths, nail trims, etc., which we can discuss when you arrive. We also like to take our guys out shopping with us, if that's something you're comfortable with. When you get here, you'll quickly see that we have oriented the house and most of our lives around them, something our four-footed guests enjoy the benefits of. We are dog people through and through, and will enjoy our time with your dog as much as we hope they will enjoy their time with us.

Always amazing! Arnold loves Bill.
I honestly don’t know what we would do without Bill. He’s the only person we trust with Arnold.
He is simply wonderful with Arnold!
Bill is amazing with Norman and Norman absolutely loves him. We couldn’t be happier leaving Norman in Bill’s care when we have to travel and it is a huge comfort and relief that Norman can stay at his own house and have Bill come to to him. We can’t say enough to good things.

Information William R. would like to know about your pet
I like to know how they are with other dogs, other people, special concerns regarding health and/or behavioral issues, food preferences, etc. Honestly, though, I am equipped to handle just about whatever your dog needs, and can adapt to their personality and help them quickly feel at home while I'm with them.
A typical day
I live near Bolivar Heights battlefield, so I have lots of safe street and trail walking nearby, as well as large open areas for those who can be trusted off-lead. More importantly, though, I'll walk them where you want me to walk them; I don't want to unnecessarily disrupt their schedule. I'm happy to play with your dog with whatever toys, balls, etc. they enjoy; play is easier as I get to know them and their preferences better. As much as toys and walks are important, I think the most important activity is doing what it takes to make your dog comfortable, both physically and emotionally. I take very seriously my job of making them feel truly at home.
