Honestly, I probably have more than 10 years of caring for a personal pet. I just figured that I was about 11 years old when I actually knew how to do it on my own without the help of a guardian. My very first pet was a puppy! I have cared for and looked after MANY types of dog breeds from Yorkshire Terriers to Great Danes to Pitbulls. My ex-partner and I got a Sheppit and that was the first time that I actively trained a puppy. He was extremely responsive to commands and behaviors before he turned one year old! In regards to patience to train dogs, I believe that I handle and manage it well. I always want to make sure that positive behaviors get properly implemented in order to have a well-behaved pet. Not only have I trained a puppy, but I understand the importance of losing a pet due to health issues. Months prior to getting my Sheppit, I had a Pitbull mix that had many health concerns from a yeast infection in his ears to a prolonged, undiagnosed, digestive issue (undiagnosed due to vets not finding the source). During my time caring for him, I was administering the medications that the vet provided- effectively and avoiding fear and trauma to arise. Aside from dogs, I have looked after many other kinds of animals! I have had a handful of cats in my life whether they were mine, a family member's, a friend's cat, or one that my roommates had. When I volunteered at an animal shelter, I often cared for the cats rather than the dogs. I tended to their litter boxes and made sure they had food and water. Aside from basic pets like dogs and cats, I have also cared for birds, hamsters, and snakes (and all at once)!
