Animals are my biggest passion!
Pet care experience
I have grown up with animals my entire life and as I have gotten older I spend more of my time looking after them and caring for them. I have experience with older dogs and helping them get down stairs and watching for signs of health problems. I have also taken care of puppies and spent the summer of 2017 watching my golden retriever grow up and keep her out of trouble. I currently have two dogs and I take them out every two hours and make sure they have water and treats throughout the day. I also have two cats and clean their litter box and refresh their food. As well, I occasionally take one of my cats out and let him walk around the house while I supervise. My own dog has separation anxiety so I have experience working with anxious animals and know how to calm them down. I love working with animals and I know what they want and need!

In a clients home I would make sure they have fresh water all the time and feed them treats at the owners discretion. If the client had a yard I would take the dog outside and throw a ball for them or play tug o war. If they did not have a yard I would take the dog on walks around the neighborhood and avoid busy streets as I know lots of car noise can be stressful for dogs and increases risk of potential problems. The animals safety and happiness are my number one priority and I would take great care of anyone's pet.
Information Valerie E. would like to know about your pet
It is important for me to know general personality about a dog form their owners perspective because they spend the most time with their pet and know them best. As well any health and medical history about the dog so that I can watch them as best I can for any potential issues.
A typical day
For high energy dogs that love to fetch I would throw their favorite toy til I felt they were reasonably tired. I am also a strong believer in enrichment activities for dogs such as playing puzzles and games with them to stimulate their brains. With my dogs at home my mom and I like to play a game called hot and cold where we hide a toy out dogs really like and then give them directions on whether they’re close to finding it or not. As well, having rewarding treat experiences where the dogs have to work a little harder. Such as putting treats in a bundled up towel and having them work through the towel to find the treats.

I wake up and the first thing I do is take my dogs outside and throw the ball for them. Before I leave for work I take them out and make sure they go potty so they do not make a mess on the floor while I am gone. In the summer my life often revolves around pet care and spend as much time as possible with them in the summer months. For clients dogs I would be taking care of their pets for as often as needed and it would be my only job as I am currently focusing on school and being a pet caretaker would be an easier balance between school and work life.
