Between SFO and Candlestick

Pet care experience

At this time we are without resident dogs. When we have visitors, we walk and play in a natural setting. We play ball, or explore the marina, or walk dog-friendly paths in Brisbane. About these sitters: We are semi-retired school teachers that love to have canine visitors. Why we love dog sitting: We have had dogs in our lives, our whole lives; from strays to registered pure breeds. Dana volunteered in a no-kill shelter as a youth. Large dogs are o.k. but leash manners are required. It's a blast to get to know your canine family member. We are constantly entertained by the gestures and ways they communicate and show joy. About our yard: First to note is that there are forty steps to the front door. Any dog with hip issues should reconsider. Our yard is fenced in but in tiered benches. (Smaller dogs might need supervision.) A wooden deck and concrete walkways surround the house. There are squirrels in the neighbor's trees, which excite many visitors. Gophers underground in the back yard give some diggers a fun time. Our experience administering medication: Pop down the throat, injected inside lip, or hidden in food. We have given fluids subcutaneously, administered creams, and flushed out wounds. We're not school-trained technicians, but have experience. Depends upon the animal and the technique. For serious medical conditions, we will consult a vet and/or expect extra pay.

Another great stay. This time one of our dogs needed some extra TLC after a recent surgery and Dana and Tom came through.

Tom and Dana are true dog lovers. They have a wealth of knowledge about dogs, lots of affection to share, lots of space for them to hang, and more toys than you can shake a stick at. Somehow they taught our pup to type out accounts of his days for us too! Thanks Tom and Dana!

This was my first time using the site. I was very hesitant and it was last minute. At the initial meet and greet I knew everything was going to be OK ! They constantly updated me with pictures and stories about what was going on. I would definitely recommend and use them again.

Information Tom H. would like to know about your pet

We would like to know what to expect. Are they food or toy possessive, car chasers, frightened by bicycles, bark or whine when in a strange place (etc.)? Does your dog have a doggie door or have signals to let us know they need to be let outside? We usually find things out quickly, but it is nice to know in advance. We enjoy all breeds although puppies can be too much. If that happens, we have baby gates that we can create separation. We redirect puppies by giving them an activity, a new toy. One special treat we do, is to coat toys with peanut butter.

A typical day

Here's where we'll take our walks There are two places in Brisbane, an old quarry road that abuts a natural wildlife preserve and a marina with shell beach. There are certain times of the year we don't do Buckeye Canyon to keep them away from foxtails and ticks. We always have an adventure. Your dog's sleeping arrangement We offer dog beds throughout the house. If your dog is crated, we honor that. Bring their bed and anything that reminds them of home. Time I'll spend with your dog 1-2 hour walk/play period, longer for puppy or high-strung dog. Generally, the routine they are accustomed to. The rest of the time would be like being a member of the family, hanging out with us. Access to outdoors.
