Professional Knowledge and Love!

Pet care experience

I realize it is a lot, but please read all of my information before deciding to contact me!! I have worked with quite a few dog daycare businesses, and also ran one for years. I'm a Certified Dog Trainer, and Schooled Dog Behaviorist. I've also been a top provider with Rover for many years. My concerns are not only the physical well being of all dogs, but their mental health as well! I have hosted many, many dogs in my home, and they are an important part of my life and career! I strive for dogs in my care to be (or become) confident, happy, feel at ease, and thrive. I can help you with many issues you may have with your dog outside the "Daycare/Boarding" situation. I work with up to date, modern Positive Reinforcement Training techniques, and not old fashioned, outdated, fear causing Negative Reinforcement tactics that only instill fear in a dog! Fear is the main reason dogs behave and/or become aggressive, or even vicious! Choke chains, pinch collars, and shock collars etc. will always do way more mental harm (and physical harm) than anything good, so don't believe everything you hear. Especially from someone that has not been properly schooled in the modern behavior field. Some want to sell you whatever they can to make profits! Others may have outdated information? You have to live with your dog, so why not be proactive! We can and should have a meet & greet at my home before you decide to have me care for your pet(s). Covid and other viruses can be lurking especially in the winter. If you are not feeling well, or have been around others that are sick, we should not have a meet & greet until you feel well again. I do have to be very sure that any dog that comes in for any period of time, is not going to become aggressive or attack other dogs or humans. Dogs can act very differently in a new strange place, and when you're not around with them. For a new dog that is only slightly nervous and just needs a bit of time to realize that he is going to be safe will relax after the initial entry period, that is basically normal. I just need to be sure all the dogs in my care are going to be safe and happy! I will explain the "Drop-Off" "Pick-Up" process when we talk. I will want to know all the details about your dog(s) when we talk. If this sounds good to you, please contact me here. I like to work on "In House" manners with the dogs, and all dogs have freedom to be inside and outside in my 6 foot fenced yard. Dogs are pack oriented animals by nature, so my small groups of dogs thrive and learn confidence if they need to while in my care. My last home was bigger than this new place so I am not taking as many dogs as I did there. Dogs need to be able to have the room so spread out and feel comfortable. We can talk more about your needs and concerns during the meet and greet. I prefer to be contacted here first, but I'm fine with talking by phone after if you like.

I judge Neil's stays at other places when I have to be away from the first 24-48 hours after he comes home. Judging from how he's been since he got back home, I can tell that Todd did an excellent job caring for Neil in my absence. I will be using Todd again, and I think Neil looks forward to his next stay!

As a schooled dog trainer and behaviorist, I don't necessarily believe that certain breeds of dogs are more aggressive than others. Yes there can be a predisposition from the parents genes to offspring, but I believe temperament is mainly a learned behavior, and is molded by humans starting at a young age. In other words, if someone teaches their pup to be aggressive, the dog will probably become so! Most 'Fear Imprints' can happen to a puppy at a very young age causing many types of fear based problem issues. I can not accept any dog that is aggressive toward other dogs or humans! I can help you reshape your dogs behaviors, but not in the 'pack' situation. That is a training/behavioral issue, and needs private sessions. I recommend a dog that shows real aggressive behaviors toward other dogs do boarding stays with a host that doesn't have other dogs! Then slowly be integrated back into a 'social pack' scenario with help of a professional. I have to add, there are many dog parents that unintentionally shelter, over-nurture, or don't get their dog out for social experiences that teach or continue a dog-dog interaction. This can cause a dog to show aggressive, fear based actions toward stranger dogs. This is usually different than an actual aggressive, vicious dog temperament? Especially a dog that has only been around the family, and hasn't been properly and consistently socialized with other dogs. We should discuss beforehand. Also, I only accept neutered and spayed dogs. Other things needed to know- Has your dog ever escaped from the home or yard? Is your dog up to date on all shots? Does your dog wear rabies and information tags on their collar? Does your dog resource guard food or toys? Anything else I need to know upfront?

A typical day

Dogs will get plenty of 'socialization' time with other dogs in my care. Lots of running and playing out in the yard. In hot weather I put out the wading pool to help cool off dogs that love the water! Getting dogs 'Needs Met' happens here!! They also get rest time whenever they want or need, and are both inside and outside during their stay. I do take daily pics. and give text updates to all dogs in my care. Some of my clients prefer to give me their phone number for the daily pics and updates, so Rover doesn't have a record of them!
