COUCHES, NOT KENNELS

Pet care experience

I offer one-on-one 24 hour dog (and bird) sitting service with a personalized touch. I own an Australian Shepherd named Winry who is professionally trained and holds a premium breed pedigree. Despite her lofty ancestry, she graciously allows me to host playmates for her to socialize with, although only one at a time. Prior to Winry, I owned a Shetland Sheepdog named Rei, who passed over the rainbow bridge surrounded by her loved ones on our family farm in North Carolina. I also own a parrot, a Black Capped Caique named Beaker. Beaker is not permitted access to dog activities due to his fragility, and therefore your dog(s) will not be permitted to interact with him - sorry! Similarly, due to quarantine and safety requirements, he is not permitted to interact with guest birds. That said, I welcome the opportunity to host your bird for a stay - I am able to conform to your preferred diet, sleep cycle arrangements, and sunlight exposure requirements for your bird, and am comfortable hosting birds of all sizes. I have extensive experience with hobby farm life, including animal husbandry and limited 'amateur veterinarian' tasks, which I picked up while tending to the farm in North Carolina. I have helped birth baby goats, and have dealt with various health conditions faced by farm animals of all ages with which farm owners are expected to deal with without the help of veterinary assistance. I say this to reassure my clients that I know how to stay calm in a crisis - I do not provide medical services, as I have a very good veterinarian whom I trust to keep my pets healthy. I use VCA Village Animal Hospital in Palm Bay, FL.

Safety, trust & environment

Dogs who stay at my house enjoy access to all rooms except the designated bird room. Those who know how to use dog doors can enjoy free access on demand to the 100+ square meter covered pool deck during daylight hours, with further access to a securely fenced yard. Dogs who are not comfortable with dog doors will enjoy hourly access to the outdoor areas, however they will be restricted indoors while not directly supervised (Florida is hot!). While indoors, dogs are encouraged to enjoy couches and beds unless otherwise instructed (I will keep dogs off of couches if you follow a 'no dogs on couches' rule at your house). Furthermore, I will overnight your dog in your crate if that is your preference. Alternatively, if your dog is used to a bed or a cool hardwood floor at night, they'll be snug as a bug at my place. I have experience caring for large breeds all the way up to Great Pyrenees and small breeds all the way down to Chihuahua. I do not discriminate against dogs based on breed or size, however I reserve the right to weigh risk VERY carefully when considering clients. Dogs enjoying the outdoor areas have access to a filtered water fountain, and dogs in-doors are provided reverse-osmosis water. My dog is fed ration-style and in private, and guest dogs can be fed as-preferred by the owner. Private feeding is available, as is open-feeding (your dog's food will need to be segregated to prevent my dog access). However, I prefer ration-style private feeding if your dog is compatible. If owner-provided food is not preferred, I can feed my preferred diet: Equal parts size-appropriate Royal Caninâ„¢ kibble, a NomNomâ„¢ fresh mix, and an egg scramble from my chicken coop. This will incur an additional fee, or you can buy me a bag of Winry's chow and we'll call it even. All dogs visiting my home who do not have a gps tracking collar will be fitted with a Tile tracking device on their collar during their stay. You will have access to the tile's location information so you can check on your fur baby during their stay. I will also have access to the location information in case I need to quickly locate your dog. In addition, video calls to check in on your fur baby are welcomed and encouraged. Finally, my dog has a Fiâ„¢ collar - if yours has one as well, you are encouraged to add me as a dog walker and add my base station to help keep the battery full! Birds visiting my house are somewhat more limited than dog guests, as I do not permit them to interact with either my bird or my dog. The risks of birds spreading contamination are too great, and the risk of birds being injured or killed by a dog are even further too great. Therefore, my only two considerations while hosting your bird are HEALTH and SAFETY. As a bird owner myself, I understand how challenging it can be to keep a bird safe and healthy. I feed my bird Beaker a highly specialized diet including a scientifically formulated cold-pressed pellet, fresh vegetables, sprouted beans, and protein supplements including fresh eggs from the chicken coop and mealworms. You can choose to offer a similar diet while your bird is visiting, with a similar additional fee to the dog food fee above, or buy a bag of Beaker's food. I am well-versed with parrot meal conversions, and while I cannot guarantee success (I prioritize health over any training goals while hosting pets) I will help with attempts to move birds to healthier diets. Remember folks, parrots can't survive on only seeds! Alternatively, I am happy to follow your preferred diet to the letter. I understand the challenges you face as a bird owner - I am lucky enough to have a friend who understands my preferred diet for my bird, and cares for my bird enough to ensure that diet is followed to the letter. I know many people aren't that lucky - Let me be that friend for you. I follow a 12-hour day/night cycle for my bird - during the day he receives 6-8 hours of partial sunlight and fresh air in his back-porch cage, as well as 4-6 hours of social time in/on/around his living room cage. When the sun goes down, I move Beaker to his night cage in the hall closet so he can get a full 12 hours of quiet time. Unless you prefer otherwise, I can follow a similar schedule with your bird - this will likely involve moving their cage from room to room, as I do not allow guest birds 'out of cage' time. Exceptions can be made by owner request at my discretion, however exceptions will NOT be made without owner request. Note: I PRIORITIZE BIRD HOSTING!!!! There are many services and even companies dedicated to boarding of dogs and cats. There are no such services easily available to bird owners. This is made even worse by the fact that birds are, paradoxically, usually more difficult to keep safe and healthy. Therefore, I try to prioritize clients with birds who need boarding. I appreciate your understanding in this matter!

Information Timothy L. would like to know about your pet

I recommend owners try to have the vaccinations below current for their dogs whenever they consider boarding their dogs. Puppies who are too young to be vaccinated are the exception of course. My dogs are kept up to date with all vaccinations below, so your dog is safe at my home. Rabies Distemper and Parvovirus (DAPP/DHPP) Leptospirosis Bordetella (Kennel Cough) Canine Influenze (Dog Flu) For birds, I recommend a visit with a certified avian veterinarian every 2 years. In any event, birds are quarantined for their full stay during boarding as I do not want to spread any germs from bird to bird.

A typical day

Dogs visiting my house will receive play sessions several times each day; however, they will be kept indoors unless joined by a human to avoid the Florida sun. Water-compatible dogs are permitted use of the pool as desired (Your dog's stay is free if your dog teaches mine to enjoy the pool). Dogs who understand how to use dog doors will enjoy on-demand access to the covered porch and pool area as well as the fenced back yard. (If you like, I can teach your dog how to use a dog door!) Birds visiting my home will be kept in their owner-provided cage throughout their stay unless otherwise requested by clients and agreed upon by me. I prefer guest bird cages be sized to fit through a standard sliding glass door - unless otherwise requested by clients, I like to provide birds with 4-6 hours of indirect sunlight per day on my screened back porch, weather permitting.

Availability

I am an Offensive Cybersecurity Specialist in the financial sector, a role for which I set my own schedule and perform from my home. Therefore, my availability is uniquely suited to caring for animals. I am able to provide one-on-one care for your dog or bird continuously throughout the day, as I typically spend much of my time throughout the day awaiting the completion of various scans and scripts. While managing this workload, I often have little else to do but enjoy time with my pets. In addition to allowing me flexibility to spend quality time with my pets, my career makes me uniquely suited to providing a safe and secure environment for your dog and/or bird. I am trusted to guarantee the security of hundreds of millions of dollars worth of financial assets against theft, fraud, and even extortion. I extend the same focus on safety and security to my four-legged or two-winged guests.
