We have two dogs at home that my wife calls her babies. They are completely spoiled. Your dog would be as well. One is a female German shepherd, getting up in years. The other is a male also also, about 6 years old. We live in the nice part of San Bernardino, near the university. There is a secluded walking trail right behind our house that is very popular with all the residents (and their dogs!). Additionally, my 11 year old daughter wants to be a vet and fawns over every animal she sees. Your dog will be very safe indeed with her around. Not to mention my wife who's lifelong dream is to live in the country, completely surrounded by animals. We also have a caged bearded dragon.
