A home for happy, stimulated dogs
Pet care experience
While your dog is staying with us, she/he will be one of our family members. That means their safety and happiness is our priority. We believe that, while all dogs have their own individual personalities and requirements, a happy dog is one that gets physical activity, mental stimulation, love & affection, and is allowed to just be a dog. That's what our household provides. The rest of the family is husband Bradley, wife Therese and dog Sketchy. Therese grew up in Sweden with her collie where she took courses and competed in obedience and agility. She also taught a dog behavior course for teenagers and their dogs. Bradley grew up in Huntington Beach with his best friend Shadow, a golden retriever. Sketchy was adopted from a shelter by Bradley 8 years ago, full of anxiety. Brad and Therese have helped him overcome many of his fears over the years, but some things remain scary and will sketch Sketchy out, such as the crackling sound of a fireplace. But Sketchy loves other dogs and would love to have a dog-buddy around the house. Our house has doggy-door access to a huge fenced yard (6000ft lot) full of grass, perfect for playing fetch and rolling around in. Sketchy enjoys (demands) 2-3 walks/runs a day which take place around the neighborhood, in the local smaller parks or Fairview park. Your dog would, of course, join in on these. Sketchy (and your dog) gets to play stimulating games that train their nose and brain and keeps them happy and healthy. The dogs in the household have access to plenty of resting spaces (dog beds, couch, human beds, rugs, floor) where they can choose a spot in the common room or hide away in a safe, calm space from everyone else if they wish. Therese works from home and is home full time and Bradley is home most of the time since he is in an online program. But he also works an irregular schedule. Sketchy is home full-time.
Reviews
Therese loves all dogs and it is clear that she wants them to have the best care possible. She has experience caring for healthy and injured dogs, and I think she has a particular soft spot for mixed breeds. Therese is responsible, good at communicating, and will take excellent care of your pup.
Therese and Brad are great care takers for dogs. They have a cute active dog who is about 8 years old golden retriever mix of their own and spoil him and love him. They treat him like a king. They also often care for Brad's parents dog who is a senior 13 year old golden retriever. They make sure he gets care and gentle with him. They have both had dogs all their lives and have been involved in saving Dog Beach in Newport Beach so as you could tell they have a huge passion for dogs. I know if you have them take care of your dog, they will be in great hands whether the dog is young, senior, small or large. They are amazing people.

Information Therese N. would like to know about your pet
We would like to know any behavior issues with the dog. What kind of temperament the dog has. Any prior injuries. Any fears. Favorite types of treats or games or scratchy-spots. We only accept friendly dogs at the moment.
A typical day
Walks will take place at least twice a day in the neighborhood (Bushard and Yorktown in HB), or in one of the smaller parks close by or in Fairview Park. We like to go for frequent runs as well. Our large fenced backyard is perfect for playing fetch and tug-of-war or just rolling around in the grass and getting tummy rubs (Sketchy's favorite). The doggy-door gives dogs unlimited access to both the backyard and the house. After your dog has familiarized him/herself with us, the house and the yard and feels comfortable, we will teach him/her how to use the doggy door. If your dog loves the beach like Sketchy, we could take him/her to Newport dog beach, but only with permission from the owner as it can be a scary and chaotic place for some dogs. Therese loves playing different challenging games with the dogs. An example is hiding treats around the house or yard and let the dogs sniff them out. Another one is challenging the dogs to use their brains to solve problems such as how to get from point A to B when there is an obstacle in the way. Therese also does basic rewards-based obedience training.
