Pet care experience
I love all animals and treat them all kindly and gently. I have trained a stubborn Beagle to be a service dog, that ended up traveling internationally through airports, up to 14 hour airplane rides and while also being a loving member of my household. I have also worked with scent detection dogs and owned a working bed bug scent detection dog for 10 years, who also lived as my indoor pet. I know how to keep dogs safe and happy and am very intuitive to their body language (as one must be with scent dogs), therefore I am proactive to any situations that might arise. I have no fear in being the pack leader. I truly enjoy the companionship of dogs and look forward to giving my heartfelt love and attention to your fur baby! I provide lots of dog beds, some inside, some outside, 2 baskets full of safe toys and lots of love and belly rubs! You may notice some of my reviews are a year or two old, that is because I was off ROVER.COM for a while, as I had cancer and was spending time getting well (however I did accept some repeat clients during the past year)! Just hit the 3 year mark of being CANCER FREE and am looking forward to meeting more dogs again now (updated Dec 2023)! Aloha and mahalo for your consideration.

I have a fenced yard where your dog can safely get plenty of exercise and have fun! I am conveniently located just 10-15 minutes from the Kahului airport! I place a huge priority on safety! Dogs can sense my love for them, even if they miss their owners or have separation anxieties, they usually settle in with me right away! Your dog will be treated like a loved family member, even sleeping in my bed is OK (if you allow that).

Dogs who will be in my home MUST be housebroken (NO potty pads in my house) and should be non-reactive, friendly dogs. Shy is OK, aggressive is not OK. I love ALL dogs but cannot take Shitszu or Lasha Apso dogs anymore as my dog does not get along with them. Any dog over 30 lbs are on a case to case basis, because they will not fit through the doggie door I have. That being said, I love all dogs, including larger ones and have successfully taken care of them, as long as they are good at letting me know when they need to go outside. IMPORTANT: Your dog must not be a fence jumper as my fencing is only about 4 feet high in some areas. Dogs being boarded or in day care must arrive clean and without fleas or ticks (or mange or other such problems). Also they must not have any illness, or problems like coughing, sneezing, open wounds that need dressing. If your dog arrives needing a bath (unattractive odors included), I will bathe them and there will be an $20.00 charge. Preferably your dog will be crate trained, though it is not required and I do not crate dogs as a matter of course, but only on rare occasions that extra safety is a concern, for short periods of time. Prefer dogs who are not diggers, as I take much care to have a nice lawn for the humans and dogs to enjoy! If your male dog marks inside my home, I will place a belly band on him. If you own belly bands, please provide them, otherwise I will have to purchase them and will ask you to reimburse me for that.
A typical day
My home is clean and safe and your dog's stay will be like a day at a resort! My yard is a gorgeous, clean grassy lawn. We have lots of doggie toys outside and inside, as well as several dog beds inside and out! I play with the dogs in the yard, and I work hard to keep it super clean, no fleas or ticks etc! I do not go to dog parks and unless I know your dog well, will not usually take it for a walk (dogs can get adequate exercise in my yard). There are exceptions, such as when we have a repeat dog that has become our 'hanai' member of the dog pack, and we know them very well so are sure there will be no problems with safety. I will sometimes bring a dog I am sitting to lunch or dinner, someplace with outdoor/patio seating, or a little shopping day, such as a cruise around Paia for example. I try to keep things fun and happy for all of us, but safety is my main priority!

I am retired so I can focus on your dog's care completely! Your dog will not be left alone in my home! I am able to follow your routines with your dog, e.g., if you do not allow your dog on furniture or in the bed, I will be consistent with that and am skilled at giving medications.
