Hello and thank you for checking out my profile! My name is Tegan and I am a long time dog lover. I am working towards my PhD in neuroscience at McMaster University, and primarily work remotely. While I love my research and what I do, I need something to help pull me away from my computer. I’ve had dogs for 25 years and in May 2019, my husband, Scott, and I adopted a rescue dog from Texas. Delta is such a huge part of our lives and has brought us a lot of joy. When she came home to us, she was extremely shy and scared, and she has come to be such a happy, loving, confident girl. She doesn’t usually love new people right away (she gets a bit scared and hides), but she LOVES other dogs. Delta is happy to play, run, sniff, or nap with other dogs of all ages, sizes, and energy levels. We have done obedience classes with Delta, and I learned a lot about helping dogs succeed in the home through this. Since 2020, I have been heavily involved in dog rescues as an adoption coordinator, social media support, and admin work. As part of this, I’ve learned a lot about many different breeds and proper training/walking techniques. I’ve also become very familiar and learned a great deal about dog body language, proper introductions, and some midwifery skills too! I am at home most of the time, and I would love to be able to be part of your dog’s life! Any dogs that come to our home will be allowed the same privileges as Delta. We always have water outside for Delta when she's out in the yard, and we're always more than happy to supply a treat or Greenie for good measure. Something important that I do mention at all meet and greets for home-based care is that we are a nut free house, so please don't bring any treats or snacks with peanut butter in them! Tegan is absolutely the best sitter in town. Everytime Nala goes to Tegan’s place, she’s wagging her tail and going in happily when we leave her there and refusing to come with us when we pick her up. That’s the perfect sign of all the fun she has with Tegan, Scott and their pup Delta. We would entrust Tegan to care for Nala any day! :)
Tegan is the best! She walked our dogs together and ensured that they got a good break, with water and treats! We got lots of photos and updates as well!
Tegan is the dog whisperer! She was absolutely phenomenal with our two dogs. Both are rescues and very fearful of everything and everyone. Tegan showed patience and a clear understanding of how to give them their space and gain their trust. She was genuinely so thrilled with every step they made towards trusting and feeling more comfortable with her. I received lots of photos and could share in her amazement at how well they were doing. Tegan's communication was top-notch and she was so accommodating. Don't hesitate to book Tegan to care for your fur babies. They will thank you!
Tegan has gone above and beyond with my dog many times! He can be nervous and hesitant but Tegan is so calm and patient with him. I would recommend Tegan to anyone!

We live in the top half of a bungalow in very friendly and quiet Northeast Guelph. Our space includes three bedrooms (master bedroom, spare room, and our office), living room, dining room, and backyard. Our house is already very dog friendly since we do have Delta and a number of other dogs that come to visit us regularly. We keep our house fairly clean and tidy...minus the ever present dog hair. Our house is also entirely wood/laminate, so no need to be worried about any accidents! We do have an area rug, but that's what our carpet cleaner is for! Delta gets free rein through the house and nothing is off limits. She tends to be independent and her day consists of what she feels like. When the weather is nice, she prefers to spend her day lounging and rolling in the grass, digging in the garden, playing with the neighbour's dog across the fence, or sleeping in one of her beds. I also make sure there’s always fresh water outside for the dog(s), and bring them in when it’s too hot. We also have a little wading pool that can be enjoyed in the summer. We do also have a 36” crate available, if need be; however, I only crate dogs who are comfortable in them. With all dogs who are flight risks or have poor recall, we keep a baby gate up at the front door at all times to prevent any unfortunate accidents. Finally, in addition to the Rover guarantee, I have independent insurance through PROFur and have completed pet first aid/CPR training.

I would like to know about any reactivity they have or resource guarding, what commands they know, any allergies, and how long they like to go on walks for. I would also like to know a bit about their personality and what kinds of things they like to do. Each dog is different :) Importantly, before we officially schedule any stays in my home, I do require a meet and greet with at least Delta and myself (and my husband if he is not at work). I think it's important to ensure that the dogs' personalities match. Delta tends to be very submissive, and I don't want her to end up in a situation that makes her uncomfortable. Additionally, I think it's even more important that your dog and you, as the owner, are comfortable with me. Delta is one of my top priorities, and I can imagine it will be the same for you and your dog.

Something I love about Guelph is how many wonderful trails there are to walk! I love being able to explore the beautiful city we live in.
