Pet care experience

My first experience with taking care of dogs is my first dog Diamond. She was a full-bred red nose pitbull and we got her at about 10 weeks old. My brothers and I were the ones responsible for training, bathing, walking, socializing and grooming her. My parents took care of buying the food and all things veterinarian related. I then got into an arrangement in middle school with a friend of the family's to do drop-in visits to her house and take care of her dogs. Rose and Betty were older toy poodles. This was my first time handling dogs that needed extra attention. I had to give Rose (elderly toy poodle) medicine and make sure she ate before Betty (toy poodle) because the two dogs would fight if they were fed together. I was their dog sitter for about a year. I had to stop because I moved to the other side of the city. I later house and pet sit for my aunt in high school. These were cats but that's where I learned the bulk of my experience for house sitting. During my stay I cleaned litter boxes, fed them, groomed Charlie (a long haired cat that stopped grooming himself), played with them, did any house cleaning, got her mail and slept there for weeks at a time. I did this about five times each year for four years straight. I stopped pet sitting because I move to Maryland for college. I used to live in a house that I share with roommates. One of my roommates has a Chinese crested terrier that I helped walk when she has to work late. I always have the desire to help out with pets because I can't afford one of my own and I love taken care of animals because they always are grateful when you do a good job. I then moved into another shared house where one of the arrangements for my lease was helping take care of the landlord's animals. There was one male cat and two Pomeranians a male (Bailey) and female (Chyna Doll). I did everything from wash the dogs, clean up after their pup pads, walk them, keep up with daily training practices, play with them, feed them and put them in their kennels at night. I did this for a year. Then my landlord gave away her cat and brought in a 4 week old female Maltese. I then helped be a puppy monitor and helps teach Molly Grace (Maltese) how to sit and stay. I also took care of all three animals before and after the cat when my landlord went out of the country for weeks at a time. I now work frequently in DC. At the moment I'm helping my brother pet sit an older male Bull Terrier (Khadij). I walk him twice a day for 40mins and feed him as well. Bonus fact: I have a pet Half-Moon Betta fish named Dragon.

Information Tamyra L. would like to know about your pet

I would ask about any triggers that might scare or make the dog act out of character. How the owners train them and specifically the language. Then just the general house rules. I do not have any preferences on breeds.

A typical day

I love taken dogs to new spots they might not be use to so going to local parks and walking on local trails would be my favorite thing to do. I also love working on behavior training I have helped train my roommates dog to stop barking at everything that's moves. Also socializing dogs is very important so I would look up local dog parks or dog friendly areas to let your pup meet and greet new pup friends.
