Responsible Yale grad loves pets!

Pet care experience

Hello! My love for animals started from quite a young age and I grew up with pets in my house - both furry and non-furry friends! As a teenager and young adult, I took care of our sweet labradoodle named Ella at each stage of her life. Although I've grown up and moved away from home and do not currently have any pets of my own, I enjoy plenty of walks and snuggles with my parent's new dog, Juneau and my friends' cats and dogs in New Haven. In college, I cat- and dog-sat for four different families quite regularly, and cared for animals that ranged from young puppies to senior friends. I've had experienced staying overnight and caring for, feeding, bathing, walking, and playing with pets ranging from cats and dogs to bunnies to geckos and even chickens! I learned about Rover from my roommate during the pandemic, as she was an avid (and incredible!) petsitter on Rover. During this time, I had the privilege of living with her as she boarded many sweet pets at our home and even got to join for a few walks around the neighborhood. I look forward to caring for your furry friend with the same kindness and love that I would for a pet of my own and I will be sure to send photo updates to you throughout our time together!

I always feel comfortable leaving my dog with Sydney... She is a warm, friendly dog lover, and she knows how to handle my 60 lb, pit / retriever mix (emphasis on muscles and lunging after squirrels..) on a walk.. Or climbing East Rock! Sydney is professional and courteous, couldn't recommend her highly enough.

My 60+lb ball of social and physical energy (that is, my dog Marnie) had the greatest time with Sydney today. From start to finish, Sydney was the sweetest and most obliging caregiver. My dog loves meeting people, and this was a great match for a social butterfly (and gem) of a host! I hope we can do this as often as she is available.

I would 100% trust Sydney as someone to watch my pup! Her genuine affection for animals, responsible nature, and warm and friendly approach make her the perfect choice. Sydney has a bubbly and sweet personality that would ensure a strong bond with not only your fur babies, but also with you. Personally, I would not hesitate to leave my babies in her care time and time again.

Information Sydney S. would like to know about your pet

As a responsible and caring petsitter, ensuring the safety and happiness of the pets under my care is my top priority and I will be sure to care for them just as if they were my own. Several key pieces of information are crucial for me to know ahead of time to provide the best and safest possible experience for your furry friend: 1. Health Information: It's vital for me to know about any existing health conditions, allergies, or medications your dog may require. This enables me to be prepared and provide appropriate care. I am a certified Emergency Medical Technician for humans, so I am always thinking about safety! :) 2. Temperament and Behavior: Understanding your dog's temperament, any fears or triggers, as well as their general behavior around other dogs and people helps me create a comfortable environment for them while we are out and about or relaxing at home. 3. Daily Routine: Knowing your dog's daily routine, including feeding times, bathroom habits, and exercise preferences, helps me maintain consistency and reduce any potential stress for them as they get used to having a new human friend take care of them. 4. Emergency Contacts: Having your cell phone number as well as the vet's emergency contact (just in case) ensures I can reach you or a medical professional in case of any unforeseen situations. Favorite Activities: Learning about your dog's preferred activity level, what your dog enjoys, whether it's specific toys, games, or favorite spots, ensures they have a happy and engaging time during their stay. Special Instructions: If your dog has any special requirements, such as specific training commands or dietary restrictions, please let me know. Clear instructions help me provide the best care possible :) Comfort Items: If your dog has a favorite blanket, bed, or toy, it's wonderful to have these familiar items to make them feel at home and relaxed. By gathering this essential information, I can tailor my care to meet your pet's unique needs, ensuring a safe, happy, and stress-free experience for both your pup and you!

A typical day

I love the vibrant and active atmosphere of New Haven! Exploring parks and nature trails in places like East Rock Park and Edgerton Park is one of my favorite ways to relax, and having a four-legged companion alongside makes it all the more fun. My daily routine now that I've finished school is filled with many outdoor jogs, hikes, and adventures, and I can't wait to extend that energy to your furry friend. Beyond just exercise, I will prioritize many playful interactions with your pet – whether it's fetch at the dog park, a lively game in my fenced-in backyard, or even some indoor fun. I guarantee not just exercise, but lots of tail-wagging fun that I'll be sure to document and send you updates of throughout your day.

Currently I am enjoying a hybrid-schedule job after graduating from a master's program at Yale this past May, so I have time to spent time with your pet (and am excited to do so!) I work from home in Mondays and Fridays, so those are great options for daytime walks and doggie daycare! Although I am unavailable during work hours Tues, Weds, and Thurs, I have plenty of weekday mornings, evenings, and weekends reserved to care for your pet. I stay active throughout the day and make it a habit to go on a long walk each day - I'd love for your pet to join me!
