Trust Aunty Sooz to Spoil Your Pets

Pet care experience

I work from home most of the time. As I tend to stare at the computer for much of the day, I'm looking for some furry canine friends to take for walks. I have grown up with lots of animals, particularly doxies, cats, rabbits, turtles, parakeets, and fish. I am a proud Aunty to my sister's shady cream Dachshund Zeke and my friend Dave's sweet Pitbull Molly. I also make homemade treats that picky doggies like Zeke love. I'm very patient when it comes to rambunctious pets as well as slower-moving seniors. I consider myself very dependable, reliable and responsible and have references that I can provide if you are in doubt. Many dogs have separation anxiety. I am very aware of this and do my best to distract them and make them feel comfortable in my home. We will often go for walks and have lots of pets and cuddles until they settle down. Every pup is different, but I have a pretty good sense of reading doggy language like licking lips and lifting up their front paw or pacing. The first night is usually the worst as it's like they are spending their first night at sleep-away camp. I have lost many hours of shut-eye staying up with some overly anxious pups over the years. I've been offering my services on Rover since February 2019. It has been really interesting to meet all sorts of dogs and their owners. I love to spoil all of the pups that I care for and sometimes have a hard time saying goodbye. I started dog sitting because I was on the fence about what sort of dog to rescue that would be a good fit for my lifestyle. I have been exposed to all sorts of dogs at this point. I can tell you that like humans, they are ALL different. The traits of one breed are not a gold standard. I think they take on some of the traits of their owners, for sure. The dream of adopting a dog of my own has morphed into being the proud momma of two aquatic slider turtles - Wilbur and Bud. They are quickly outgrowing their 20-gallon tank. Hence, I am unable to watch any kitties with this current setup. I send photos and text updates and concerns routinely. At the end of an extended visit, I complete a Doggy Report Card so that each owner has a better sense of how their dog's visit went. I also have an aunty.sooz Instagram account where I post updates and videos that sometimes don't go through on this app. I like to think that I offer Boutique Pet Sitting services. I am constantly turning away clients due to overlapping stays. I refuse to book more than one pup household at a time so it's First Come, First Serve as there is only ONE of me. But now, pups are getting double the love as honorary members of the House of Aunty Sooz as there is an Uncle Cory here. Cory loves to brush pups. That's his thing. Sometimes I am jealous because some pups seem to like him more than me! What am I, chopped liver?

Great communication throughout her stay. You can tell she absolutely loves animals and wants to take the best care of your fur baby. Our dog had the best time during her stay!

This is our second time having Susan look after Zoey. We are so grateful for her and the time and care she puts into pet sitting. Zoey is very anxious and needs a lot of attention and affection and Susan goes above and beyond for her. We also love and appreciate all of the photos and videos we receive!

Safety, trust & environment

I have a huge fenced-in backyard. There are some gaps under the fence that local bunnies tend to visit on occasion. They have eaten my blueberry and strawberry plants so I am planning on adding a screen to secure the borders this Spring. If you have a tiny anxious pup (like a miniature poodle), we would have to keep her on a leash just in case she tried to escape. I have blocked off the gaps where I can. On walks, I will usually cross the street or avoid meeting other dogs just as a precaution. I'm a bit overprotective I guess. Unless you specifically give your pet human food, I generally avoid that. Sometimes if they're not eating, I might put a little plain chicken or cheese as a topper over their kibble, but never anything directly from the table.

Information Susan S. would like to know about your pet

I have recently set up a Google Doc Boarding Intake Form that helps give me a better sense of your pup/s. I'll send you the link to fill that out if we both agree that it's a good fit. My main concern is about the anxiety levels and how social your pup is. What are their triggers? Are they likely to chase cars if I walk them near a busy road? I usually opt for the back alleys in my neighborhood, but rush hour can be a bit much for some pups. I have walked two very strong-willed Corgis and a beagle when I lived in Brooklyn, NYC so walking in urban environments is nothing new. I know how to steer clear of those tempting chicken bones and pizza crusts! However, if a pup decides it wants to try to eat some poop, I am not going to attempt to retract it. Unfortunately, not everyone in my neighborhood has been dutiful about waste pickup. Please let me know if you use "drop it" or "leave it" or some other command if you have a very inquisitive pooch that needs to be watched more closely. Sometimes it's hard to know if they are just passionately sniffing the ground or going for the gold! I also do not want to instill any bad habits. If you say that your dog is not allowed to sit on the sofa, I will follow your wishes. But how sad is that? Pups are allowed (and sometimes take over) my bed, but crates are also welcome. Please let me know what your preferences are and I will adhere to them.

A typical day

Depending on the pup, we will sometimes go for car rides to local parks. I especially like to go hiking if the ground is pretty dry. I avoid dog parks and greeting other unknown dogs out of safety concerns.
