Loving care for animal companions
Pet care experience
I am a life-long animal lover, with a particular interest in dogs. I cared for two pups, Jay and Honey, for 13 years and a cat, Prozy, for 18. I now shares her life with Fiona, a Lhasa Apso rescue. Thank you for bringing more joy into the world by loving an animal. When in my care, your beloved companions receive my full attention and love, a safe and reliable source of nurturing, and a sense of belonging. I can administer medications, accommodate older pets, incontinence, and other mishaps in my home or yours. I provide regular text updates throughout the day, complete with photographs of your companion(s), and, with a master's degree in social work, I can help alleviate any stress you or your human companions may experience while preparing for a trip, or while you're away. I can also provide bereavement services if ever you need support due to the loss of a loved one. I currently work very part-time outside the home, and otherwise work from the home as a writer and artist. I provide long- or short-term lodging for dogs up to 40 pounds, dog walks to support you and your family during the work week or weekends; I also house/animal-sit for long or short periods of time. I am flexible and can accommodate your needs. While in my care your beloved animal companions enjoy a safe and quiet home or enjoy the comfort and familiarity of their own home. I offer a fenced in yard, stimulating walks with basic training for dogs that need special attention, trips to dog parks with your approval, hikes, playtime, downtime, and lots of love. My little dog, Fiona, gets along with and respects all other animals. I have no other animals in my home, but one adult female tenant who is eager to provide extra loving!
Reviews
Susan was wonderful! I felt 100% confident leaving Lionel with her, and when I came back at the end of the day, he clearly felt at home. He was happily greeted me, but then immediately went and curled up in her living room chair as if to say, let's live here now! I'm so happy to have found a wonderful dogsitter so close to where I live, and look forward to hiring her again.
Susan is a caring, animal-loving person. We trusted her completely to care for our sensitive Boston Terrier, both in our home and hers. I wouldn’t hesitate to use Susan’s services again. We highly recommend her.
It is hard to overstate how responsible, responsive and attentive Sue Blauner has been in her care of our home and our pets – including our 11-year old dog and our 22-year old parrot, both of whom required special monitoring. She was willing and able to handle unexpected needs with grace and sensitivity, maintained close contact and clear communication with us during our trip to California, and showed our animals the love and care we would have shown them. We would gladly entrust our home and pets to her again.
Sue takes care of my two indoor cats when I travel, and I couldn’t be happier with how she does things. She always spends a little time with them when she gives them their food twice a day, and even my most skittish cat enjoys her company. She can be trusted to give meds, as needed, and even cleans the cat box if I’m away for more than a day or two. She’s so good with them that the cats barely seem to notice that I’ve been gone.

Safety, trust & environment
I own a clean, bright, safe and quiet home in a well-established neighborhood with great neighbors. The animal will have free reign of the home under my supervision, will sleep bed with me or next to me on the floor if preferred. I have one small "chill" Lhasa Apso, Fiona, who gets along with everybody. I even tell bedtime stories, all about how great they are as animals. I have a small fenced-in back yard and would never leave an animal alone in the yard, even though it's fenced. The rest of my yards are flower beds. I look forward to meeting you and your companion(s)!
Information Susan B. would like to know about your pet
I require a meet and greet for both myself and my pup, Fiona. I also require vet and emergency contact information, and I have a form that asks for details such as feeding schedule, nicknames, toy preferences, energy levels, sleeping habits, medicine, etc.
A typical day
We can walk to a wooded trail by the Connecticut River from my front door, as well as to the bike trail, Unity Park, and on a longer walk to Rock Dam off the end of Avenue A. Dogs can relax on the furniture or have lots of playtime. I am happy to bring dogs to the Greenfield dog park if owners approve. We can hike Mt. Toby or Poet's Seat. If your dog loves water, we can play fetch at The Connecticut River or Lake Wyola. If he or she is a senior, we will enjoy short walks and quiet time together at home. Fiona is a great companion to older dogs.
