Pet care experience
My name is Sumner. I am 19 years old, attending Mira Costa college, studying business. I graduated from Torrey Pines high school in 2017. love dogs! I am a very active person, I love taking dogs on long walks. I am 6'7, so I will be able to handle any size dog. I have a beautiful English black lab named Blue, he is extremely friendly with new dogs. He is six years old but he still acts just like a puppy. I live in Carmel Valley, near Del Mar. I live in a large townhouse. I have a fenced yard. I am home full-time. I do not have a job at the moment, so I am available any time. I am very excited about this job.
Reviews
Sumner and my dog really get along and I would book him again!
I can barely put into words the frustration, stress, and agitation Sumner caused us. If I could give Sumner zero stars I would. Upon initial contact, Sumner was very responsive and appeared eager to accept the job of caring for our dog for two weeks while we were away (job was 2 drop ins per day). Sumner came to our home for a meet and greet, met our family, and seemed to understand the needs that our nearly 12 year-old senior dog required while my husband and I were away on our ten year anniversary trip. Once we arrived at our destination, I texted Sumner with a reminder/confirmation that he would start caring for our dog that evening like we had previously discussed (we had agreed that he would come to our home between 5-7 pm each night along with morning visits) and Sumner promptly replied, confirming he understood. Fortunately we have the Ring video system so we are alerted when anyone comes and goes from our home. By 8:30 pm Sumner had not arrived. I tried calling and texting him numerous times with no response. By 9 pm, I was desperate and found someone else to go to my home to feed our dog, give him his medication and take him out. At 10 pm, Sumner finally answered his phone and unapologetically informed me he had been in O.B. all day and that our house was “too far” because he was going to skateboard over. (I was floored by this considering he had already been to our home and was well aware of our location.) He said he would go to our house then (past 10 pm at this point) which I told him wouldn’t be necessary and that I had already canceled our booking through Rover. It was a bit concerning that Sumner didn’t seem to care about the cancelled booking (and his loss of over $400) or how upset I was. The tone of his voice was very blasé and he seemed quite unaffected and detached from the reality of the situation he had caused. Sumner couldn’t have cared less about the well-being of our elderly dog or the fact that he ruined the first night of what supposed to be a wonderful and relaxing getaway for my husband and me. When you book a dog sitter, you do so to ensure the health and safety of your beloved pet but also to give you peace of mind while you are away. Sumner is unreliable, unprofessional, and should not be trusted with caring for animals while owners are away. If we did not have the Ring, it sickens me to think how long our dog would have sat at home, unfed and unattended to. (I would also like to add that I’m not generally one to leave reviews. But when Rover was helping me cancel the booking and refund my money — they were very helpful, by the way — Rover highly encouraged me to leave a review so other pet owners don’t experience my same situation.)
Sumner is very kind and flexible. Will continue to work with him.
Great with my pup!
