Pet care experience
Stephen and I have been taking care of dogs since just before we were married, over 19 years ago. Our two kids have never known life without a dog in the house and were walking dogs by the leash as soon as they could walk themselves. We now have Pepper, our loyal and fun loving Border Collie/Sheltie mix, who does not go a day without a hike or long walk, running around the house with our kids, fetching her ball for hours on end, and basically being spoiled. We would love to open our home to other dogs and would treat them like our own -with open arms, patience, and lots of attention. We do have two crates for dogs that need their own space or get overwhelmed, a doggy door for free access to our backyard, and welcome senior dogs and puppies not yet house broken. Dogs that stay with us will enjoy walks, watching the cows from our neighboring pasture, visiting our neighborhood parks and open fields, playing fetch or learning new tricks (sit, stay, roll over), and hanging out. We will also be sending you lots of pics of your pups during their stay so you can see the fun they are having and what they are up to. Please note, we do watch dogs for more than one client at a time and we cannot guarantee that your dogs will be our only guests at one time.

I am very happy with how they cared for my dogs. They sent lots of pictures and each day took my dogs for a walk in beautiful parks. I would definitely use them again.
Summer and her family took great care of Rey while I was away. They were also understanding and flexible when my schedule changed and I was able to pick her up early rather than having her stay for the night. I got lots of pictures, and Rey was so tired when she came home. I would definitely send Rey to stay with them again!
Fantastic family to watch our dog! They were very friendly and gave our dog so much love and attention. He got some great walks and playtime, and all the photos were so nice to get. Highly recommend!

Fully fenced backyard that borders a cow pasture where your pups can meet the cows. (They always come over to see a new dog!). We do not crate unless that is your preference. We carefully screen our clientele for safety. Pups are not left alone under our care. We also never take our client's dogs off-leash.

Information Summer T. would like to know about your pet
Let us know about any behavior issues, such as resource guarding, marking, leash pulling, car chasing etc. We put a very high emphasis of safety for our guest dogs and our own. We prefer to schedule a meet and greet before accepting a new dog whenever possible, especially with larger breeds. If we see behavior that concerns us, such as aggression, or a dog that does not respond when play becomes too rough and other dogs are signaling they are done, we may decide against sitting for that dog. Keep in mind, this is not personal and we are just looking out for the well being of our dog and the many repeat customers we have, some of whom have smaller dogs. Well behaved large dogs are welcome but we need to see how they interact with others. Let us know about any special needs, health concerns, and preferences. If you have a dog that tires easily and you would not like them to take a longer hike, let us know. Obviously, we know that older, dogs, brachycephalic breeds, (such as pugs, bulldogs, boston terriers etc.) and overweight dogs will have lower limits to the type of exercise they can do.
A typical day
We walk nearby neighborhoods every day. If we have a small number of dogs we usually take them hiking nearby. Hikes we do with guest dogs include: Alger Alps, Squire's Lake, Whatcom Falls, Fragrance Lake at Larrabe St. Park, Rasar State Park, Northern State Recreational Area, Blue Lake, Lime Kiln Trail, Boulder River, Sauk River. Due to safety concerns, we will not take your dog off leash. Even if your dog is good off leash with you, they are not used to recalling to us. We don't want a dog with separation anxiety to run off looking for you.

We are both educators and we open up Rover during the Summer, during breaks in school, and on weekends. Unfortunately during the school year, we cannot watch pups on weekdays now that we are back teaching in-person.
