Pet care experience
***UPDATE*** April 2024. I'm reopening my home boarding after an extended time away. In the last two years I became an accredited dog trainer and continue to do that as my "day-job". I will focus my boarding with dogs from only one household at a time. This will help ensure your pup(s) get proper attention from me and allows for predictability. I have a roommate who will be assisting with any dog boarding with us. With staggered work schedules we will be able to have at least one of us at home most of the time with the exception of about a 5-hour window Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. My home has two dogs that are well socialized and trained. Captain, 7 years old, I’ve had since he was 1 is a Rat Terrier/ Staffordshire Terrier mix. He is who your dog will be introduced to first during our meet and greet. He is well experienced in meeting dogs that are reactive to anxious and makes appropriate choices in both extremes. He will be the biggest indicator to me if your dog(s) will do well at my house. He is unlikely to want to engage in rough play with any dog but is happy just to be with the pack doing his thing. Archer is a 3-year-old German Shepard/ Husky mix that I adopted when he was just over 2 years old. He has quickly taken to training and has proven himself adapt at proper play with dogs of all sizes, he particularly loves very small dogs and puppies (I’m not sure why). Why am I doing this? I love training dogs and their humans and helping them build and improve their relationship. The place I work at is super affordable which means I get to help people who would not be able to otherwise afford a professional dog trainer. The downside to that is that they can’t pay out that much. Therefore, I am back to Rover to earn some extra money to pay the bills. How to set your dog up for success during his stay? 1- Let's schedule a meet and greet at my house. 2- During that time let me see how you interact with your pup. a. What are the training behaviors they have nailed down the most? i. This will help a lot in those crucial few minutes when you leave after drop-off so I can get them focused on confidence building activities instead of anxiety. 3- For first time overnights we can schedule a one-off daycare appointment at your request to get your dog used to my home and make the boarding drop-off easier. 4- Things you can bring; a. Food b. Food bowl (if they use something special like a slow feeder) c. Collar and leash. d. Crate, bed, or special blanket. 5- Things to keep at home; a. Toys b. Water/ food bowls (unless there is a special need)
Reviews
Steve is the absolute best. Super communicative and takes great care of my dog.
Steve was simply amazing to Timmy! We were scrambling to find a sitter at the last hour since our prior plans didn't work out - Steve was super prompt in his response and we were able to setup a quick meet and greet with him. Timmy ended up getting a lot of personal care and attention and seemed to thoroughly enjoy horsing around the yard during his stay. Thank you Steve for being awesome!
Steve was wonderful with our nervous dog. He worked with our dog to build trust and calm our dog. Lots of pictures and kept us posted on how our day was doing.
Steve was great with Koa. Had to schedule last minute, Steve was great with communication and sent lots of pictures

I have a fenced yard in a quiet cul-de-sac. I have a 12'x20' covered patio so even on rainy days the dogs can enjoy some fresh air. I have one pup who is 7 and has yet to meet another pup he didn't get along with. All dogs are separated during feeding. Dogs that do well at my home are ones that have been well socialized and get along good with other dogs. If you take your pup to the dog park with no issues they will fit in simply fine here. **I love dogs of all sizes and ages but have a special place in my heard for senior dogs**

Information Steve H. would like to know about your pet
Does your dog prefer people or other dogs? Do they like to be held or cuddled? What can push them into potential bad behavior? What scares them? What is the best way to comfort them? Do they have any sensitive spots or places they don't like to be touched? What behavior are you currently working on that I can help encourage during their stay?
A typical day
If the weather is decent the dogs will have open access to the backyard during the day. They will usually get at least two play sessions a day with a ball if they are up for it. If the dog is good on a leash we will take sniff walks to the local field. In the evening they can look forward to cuddles on the couch if the want or take an evening patrol walk of the back yard. Really this is going to vary based on what your dog wants and needs. Your 6 month old will likely get a lot more games of ball and sniff walks than your 10 year old.

Availability
Availability: I keep my calendar up to date based on days I can provide the best care for your pup(s). If you need days covered that I show not available, message me and I'll let you know what my limitations are for that day and you can decide if that works for you. For boarding I may need to leave for no more than 6 hours on days I have marked as open, for days I have marked off I may be out the house for up to 8 hours. Message me if you need care on a day I have marked off and we can discuss if my schedule limitations will still work for you and your pup(s).
