How do I care for pets my own home? My first priority is always creating a safe environment for any pet that enters my space. As a individual who has had a family dog my entire life, I know that a lot of things on the floor or countertops can be very easily accessible and so I will work towards making sure pets can’t get into anything toxic or harmful. I also try to emphasize comfort when pets enter my home, because being a new space is always scary, especially for pets, and so trying to make them as comfortable by providing them with a cozy space to sleep, bringing them their favorite toy, sticking to a routine, and playing with them. When caring for pets in other peoples homes, I want to make sure that I have a meet and greet so that I know all of the care instructions and routines. I also want to emphasize that I am going to be very respectful of your space, making sure that I am cleaning up after myself, and ensure that your home is how you left it upon return. If I am caring for your pet in my home or yours, I want to ensure that we had an emergency plan in place just in case something were to happen I’d know how to contact you or your preferred vet for emergencies.
