Growing up I have always had at least one dog in my life. When I was in 6th grade I finally got "my" dog. A little puppy from our local shelter. By the time she turned 4 she was diagnosed with diabetes and severe thyroid issues. The vet informed me that she may have 2-3 years. Before I knew I was moving away for college and my little special needs dog was coming with. Due to her health issues I had to make sure I came home to visit her, check her glucose. She had to have several vet appointments to ensure she was of good health and her medication was doing what it needed. She requires two shots of insulin and oral medication. My girl made it to 15 years. I love dogs and believe they are a part of a persons family. Since moving to New York from the Midwest I have yet had the opportunity to own my own dog again. I'm still have three family dogs back home that I get so excited to see when o get the chance to go back to the Midwest. This is the longest I have gone with out a dog and would love to help others out with their little fur baby.
