Stephanie came to my apartment for a meet and greet with my two dogs prior to accepting my booking request for housesitting; I’d requested her services for the week between Christmas and New Years, as I am going to be out of the country. She and I took my two dogs on walk together around my neighborhood, with her holding their leashes and me walking alongside her. I’d previously warned her that my dogs get very excited when they see other dogs and would likely bark and pull on their leashes in this case. On our “test” walk together, we encountered another dog, and she experienced firsthand what that situation was like. She assured me she could handle it and accepted my booking request. I ended up needing a dog walker 1.5 weeks before my international holiday trip, so I requested her services since I’d already booked her for the other long stay. She confirmed. I received a message that evening after she’d walked them saying that she’d encountered another dog while walking them, and it was more than she was comfortable handling. She ultimately cancelled our booking I’d made for my holiday trip, leaving me in a bind and scrambling to find someone else to watch them over the holidays. I understand that the situation was probably nerve-wracking in the moment, but I wish she would’ve been upfront with me about this concern during the meet and greet (2 months prior) - that way I could’ve found someone else long before my trip. Additionally, I came home late the night she’d walked them, and my dogs’ large treat container was opened and on the floor with all of the large Milkbones spilled out of it. I normally keep the container up high so the dogs cannot reach it, so it was evident that she’d moved it somewhere that they could reach it and access the treats. Before I’d left for work, the treat container was full with about 10 pounds of large Milkbones. When I found the container on the floor, opened, only half of the bones were still there. My dogs had eaten roughly 5 pounds of large Milkbones after she left my house. This resulted in multiple accidents (diarrhea) in my house the next day while I was not home. I cannot in good conscious recommend Stephanie as a dog walker or sitter.
