Experience High-Energy Dog Owner

Pet care experience

My Love for Dogs - I've taken care of my childhood dog Daisy for 17 years. Those who see her tell me she looks extremely well for her age, especially when she plays in the dog park. I take care of her younger sister Lilo who's done training and is a star neighborhood dog. My dogs are high energy breeds...I take pride in my dogs' good training and behavior and will focus my Rover services in those areas. They don't jump on counter tops, they both know "go to place", they wait for their food, aren't food aggressive towards humans, they sleep well over night and on their beds, they walk well on and off leash and around other dogs, they know leave it and come, they're potty trained, crate trained, and aren't destructive, they're quiet and love to play and they read the energy in the room well. I've taught them how to control their high energy and when to release their energy at the right time, with the proper care and attention. Daisy, due to her 17 years of age, has lost some of her eye sight and hearing, and so needs more physical or close contact guidance to get her attention but will follow your directions once she's aware you're getting her attention. She can't sit or walk well on slippery floors due to her hip dysplasia. She wears booties to walk on slippery floors. She'll go up and down the stairs but I'll try to take an elevator when available. With other dogs, she's indifferent. She keeps to herself most of the time and has never showed aggression. For all Rover Services: - Constant detailed updates (text, photos, videos). I'll follow your dog's strict feeding routine. Plenty of treats, if allowed. Engaging toys. I can give any oral medications as I have experience with this with my own dog. Sometimes dog's act differently when they're not around their owner...I can tell quickly when a dog has some behavior issues that may get them in trouble (i.e. separation anxiety, toy, food or human possession issues, dominance, etc.) and will share this with the owner to make them aware. I'll also practice avoiding those situations with the pet. I will practice training to help the owner and dog as any training importunity should be taken advantage of. I'll also provide tips to the owner to help make their pet an exceptional doggy citizen. I'll also point out any health issues I may notice, such as scabs, itching, licking, scooting, cysts, etc. Lilo loves to play gently, so your dog will have a playful dog buddy during their stay, as long as they also play gently. For Check In Visits and Walks - I require a meet and greet for check in visits and walks. Since this requires me to visit the home, at times without the owner around, I need the dog to get to know me. So, to avoid any aggression during the check in, I'll set up a meet and greet with the owner at the pet owner's place. I may cancel or request to adjust the visit/walk if there is inclement weather. Also for Check In Visits - I must have a vet to send the pet to in case there is an emergency. I'll adjust the time I spend walking, feeding, playing, cleaning up, etc. depending on the dog's needs. So for example, during a 30 minuted visit, if a dog needs a longer walk than playing, I'll do that during the requested time. I'll also share a video how the dog reacts when I arrived/enter the property, as well as a recap video when I leave the property. Also for Walks - I walk with treats, doggy bags, a headlamp and pepper spray for coyotes. I also track walks and provide photos and notes at the end of the walk. Boarding and Day Care: - Between boarding or day care, I only accept one client at a time, so your pet will be the only pet at my place. Pet's must be up to date with vaccinations and be on flea/tick prevention. I must also have a vet to send the pet to in case there is an emergency. I require meet and greets for boarding and day care to confirm that my pets will get along with yours. Unfortunately, I will not accept puppies, dogs who don't know how to walk on a leash, dogs who are not potty trained, unfixed males, or dogs over 70lbs for boarding or day care. Puppies require constant attention, such as potty training and other behavioral/basic training. This includes dogs over a year old that aren't untrained. I work from home so I can't dedicate all of that time to puppies unfortunately. Throughout the day, I dedicate 1-3 hours to walk dogs who stay with me to use the bathroom, exercise or go to the dog park. Hence, dogs who stay with me must know how to walk on a leash without constant pulling. I have two females, who although are fixed, do not like to be mounted on so no unfixed males. Due to the available space, I can't have dogs over 70lbs. I also do not allow pets on furniture. However, they'll have 3 different dog beds for their choosing, not including their own, assuming that they don't pee, destroy, or mark beds. If the dog is comfortable in a crate, I can have their crate at my place.

Stephanie is an outstanding dog walker. She is extremely knowledgeable about the care and safety of dogs and is very adept at getting our dog to listen to her commands.

I live in an apartment and do not have a yard. However, inside of the apartment is safe. My community has a dog park for play time, as well as an enclosed path away from traffic to safely walk. Between boarding or day care, I only accept one client at a time, so your pet will be the only pet at my place, besides my own. My pets are also up-to-date with vaccinations and flea/tick prevention, assuming that your pet is as well.

Let me know your dog's usual daily routine, including their typical potty schedule and food schedule. Are they okay in the car? Any medications? Are they territorial over toys or like marking areas, such as dog beds? etc.

A typical day

We love to walk and play with other dogs. We can hike up Topanga, play with dogs at the dog park, and play with all of the toys at home.

Availability

I'm self-employed and spend most of my time at home with my two dogs. Plenty of time for good walks, potty breaks, and play time. FOR ALL SERVICES: -The earliest I am available is 7am. The latest is 8 pm. - I can provide Rover services for 7 days a week up to 2 weeks. (I.e. you need someone to take care of your pet while you’re on vacation). Anything more long term will have to be discussed. For example, I generally do not do walks 7 days a week for over 2 weeks, but if you need longer, more permanent services, then the schedule would have to change to less days.
