I am surprised by the 5-star reviews for Spencer and suspect they are not from people having their dogs stay with Spencer in his home. My dog stayed with Spencer for 1 weekend, and he didn’t even bother to learn my dog’s name (consistently used different/wrong names even after the stay was over). His place was not ready to have a dog present – food dishes on the floor, medication stored just barely off the floor, and other items he clearly didn’t want my dog to sniff or lick just lying on the floor. He immediately started yelling at my dog for putting his nose all over these items that were on floor. HE’S A DOG! At the end of the stay, Spencer noted that my dog was sick often and threw up quite a bit which is very out of character for my dog. He mentioned that my dog ate stuff off the counter – probably why he was sick – and also not something he does at home because I don’t allow it, I watch and supervise my dog, and don’t leave tempting things accessible. Spencer couldn’t follow the very simple feeding instructions I provided in writing and in the Rover app (I also pre-portioned food out for each meal to make it very easy). And I suspect he might have gotten physical (I witnessed yanking on my dog’s collar and slaps/pushes). My dog is larger – 70 lbs – but easily controllable with verbal commands and the physical corrections really caught me off-guard. The meet and greet went okay, but when I dropped my dog off for his stay I was very anxious leaving my pup with Spencer for the weekend, but at that point I had no choice. I won’t leave my pup with Spencer again. I’ve been using Rover for years and have left my babies with some wonderful sitters. Spencer was not a fit for us.

We were out of the country for a week and I felt our dog was well cared for. Spencer met all our dog's needs for feeding, walking, using the crate and sleeping arrangements. His home was kept tidy as well.
