Vet Tech, Loves Special Needs Pets!
Pet care experience
As the director of a local senior dog rescue and a veterinary technician, I have extensive experience working with both special needs and senior dogs and cats. There are no conditions I am unwilling to work with. I am experienced with administering oral medications (even with the cleverest dogs and cats), injectable medications (including insulin for diabetics), SQ fluids, and many other procedures. I am also experienced with paralysis (including bladder and bowel expression), dementia, diabetes, severe arthritis and hip dysplasia (and other mobility impairments), incontinence, cancer, blindness/deafness, and other common old-age ailments. Specifically when it comes to kitties, I love working with senior cats as well as those with some behavioral issues- including semi-ferals and ferals. Whether your elderly companion need a mid-day potty break or medications administered while you're at work, or even if you just need an extra hand to help medicate and care for them, I'm here to ensure they're happy and healthy.
Reviews
Sophiane did a great job giving my cat an injection at home. She took her time getting to know him a bit and made the whole process simple & easy. I’m so glad to have found her and look forward to working together again.
I run a sanctuary for senior/special needs dogs. We normally have 15+ dogs at any given time, and Sophiane is one of the only people we trust taking care of our dogs. She is great with our oldies, proficient in giving all kinds of medications (oral and injections) as well as giving fluids. There aren't any issues she hasn't been able to handle. She is also great with the dogs that have behavioral issues like separation anxiety, thunder/noise phobias as well as the very shy puppy mill dogs. We also have small mammals, reptiles, a cat, chickens, goats and a pig...she can cover it all! Can't recommend her enough!
Sophia is the fur-mom and foster for several senior dogs and it shows! Over the years, she cared for our mutt, Bruce, even into his seniorhood when he became paralyzed in the back legs and urinary and fecally incontinent. At over 55 lbs, it took some wrangling to get him into his wheelchair. Sophia had great advice to improve his daily routine and even took him to the vet while we were out of town. She is an very knowledgeable, patient, and caring dogsitter.

Information Sophiane N. would like to know about your pet
I would prefer to only care for senior and/or special needs animals. For mobility impaired dogs that I would have to lift (as in carry, not simply assist), I try to draw the line at around 100 lbs, but can be flexible depending on whether or not lifting harnesses can be used to assist. I love all breeds, including "bully" types. I also work with animals that have behavioral issues on a frequent basis (in both cats and dogs).
A typical day
Depending on what your dog is up for, we can do anything from a long walk around the neighborhood (or park, should there be one near by), or a slow sniff around the block. Or hey, there's nothing wrong with just hanging out in a grassy spot and sunbathing! Medication time isn't usually fun, but I always try to make it as positive as possible- with lots of love, treats, and as little restraint as possible.
