Pet care experience
I am a Pre-Vet student at The University of Minnesota who is looking for more experience with animals! I have had dogs/cats/small animals my whole life, and I enjoy being around animals. I also volunteer at the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in their adult animal care and medical room. I am comfortable with big and small dogs, (I have experience with both) along with cats and other animals like rodents. I am willing to travel around the surrounding areas and I am flexible with time. I currently have my dog (Cookie) who stays at my parents house while I’m at college: and my cat (Layla) who stays with me. I know the importance of training with obedience and socialization, and I am also trained in basic animal safety. Animals are a huge part of families, and I will ensure your furry friend is looked after :)

Sophia took wonderful care of our dog, Echo and our home. She provided daily updates with pictures and followed instructions for our somewhat high maintenance dog. We knew Echo was in good hands with her!
Our dogs love Sophia and she is great about giving updates while we’re traveling!

When caring for pets in my own house I like to adapt to their individual needs. For example, I will buy new toys if old ones are not working out. If their diet isn’t working for them then I will experiment until I find something that does work. Overall, I will observe and learn how I can best help them. When working with other animals I lean on the client to give me a baseline of what they know. I will follow their instructions and reach out with questions if they arise. I will add my own experience and use treat or toys to build a relationship. I want to establish a bond with behavior that works but follow a clients schedule for their pet.

I do not have any breed preferences, but I would like to know how your dog does on a leash and how they do around other dogs and people.
A typical day
I enjoy taking my dogs on walks at parks such as Bend in the River, Mississippi County Park, Whitney Park, Beaver Island Trail, and local neighborhoods. I tend to play fetch to drain some energy and go over basic obedience training. I try to socialize when possible and only if agreed by others.

Availability
I am currently enrolled in classes at the U of M. This is my last semester so my work load is one online class. I volunteer Thursday and Sunday night at The Wildlife Rehabilitation Center (4hr shift). Lastly, I work at the St. Paul campus with their horses Saturday nights (1-2hr shifts).
