Pet care experience
I work at an emergency Veterinary clinic in the city so I get to work with dogs every day! Unfortunately many of these interactions are sad and emotionally challenging. On the brighter side, I feel that I have learned to be more perceptive and sensitive to the needs of my doggy patients and I strive to make them as happy and comfortable as possible during a very difficult time. I also have knowledge and abilities that other walkers may not and would feel comfortable dealing with dogs that might need a little extra care. I would only be able to host your dog if I am available to be home during the duration of their stay. I live in a large house with a fenced in yard and live close to parks, dog parks, hiking trails and more. The redwoods are just up the road and the beach is only a short drive! I also have a nice bed and would be happy to cuddle if your dog isn’t the “active” type. Your dog must get along with kitties...as I have 3. They have lived with dogs before. If your dog has any special needs....for example medications given, certain at-home treatments, dietary or exercise restrictions... that is definitely something I am comfortable with and something we can talk about.

I have known Sonja for over 15 years. She is a dear friend and one of the greatest animal lovers I know. So when Sonja went back to school for veterinarian technician, I knew that it was the perfect job for her. I have personally experienced her loving care as Sonja was enlisted to watch my own Boxer, Tootsie. Sonja cared for Tootsie as if she was her own. She was always so thoughtful toward Tootsie and was creative in her activities while caring for her. Sonja has always been excellent in her communication with me as a dog owner. I highly recommend Sonja for this position as she will treat your customer's pets as if they were her own.
Growing up Sonja was the primary walker for our family dog. Sonja truly cares about animals and their comfort. She chose her career as a Veterinary Technician, not only to care for animals, but because she has such compassion for their human families.
I first met Sonja at work, about 9 years ago. We've remained good friends after she left the company to follow her dream of working with animals by going back to school to become a vet tech. She's always been an animal lover, and will always stop to pet dogs or cats wherever we go. She has become very knowledgeable about pet health and care over the years of her education and employment as a registered vet tech, but it's her true love for animals that shines through when she's around them.

I would like to know if your dog gets along well with cats and with other dogs. Does your dog like to go on adventures or do they prefer being inside? Are they more comfortable in a yard or do they like going out? I would prefer small-medium breeds but I love all dogs. Breed does not matter.
A typical day
I would make a special effort to drive to scenic areas. I live right down the road from Redwood Regional Park. I’d be happy to walk your dog around Lake Merritt, the redwoods, along the beach in Alameda, the park down the street from my house and even willing to venture out further. If your dog likes to be around other dogs we can talk about that as well. Point Isabel, Joaquin Miller dog park etc. I am a bit wary of off leash parks with small and large dogs, because of what I see at the Vet Clinic I work at. Your dogs safety would be my number one priority. We also have a nice back yard to play in if that’s something your dog would enjoy!
