I have been around dogs my whole life. My two older brothers and I loved animals so much that we each raised a guide dog for the blind throughout high school. I served as Glacier's Primary Raiser, loving and training her to become the "eyes" of someone blind or visually impaired. During this time, I committed 1600 hours to train her. This involved potty training, teaching her to be reward-motivated, and exposing her to all possible sights and sounds, surfaces, and distractions she might face as a working Guide. After all of our dogs "graduated" and made it as working guide dogs, I decided I still wanted to care for pups, so I began pet sitting. I have pet-sat at many people's homes and have always enjoyed my experience. My community back in Colorado trusted and relied on me to take great care of their home while they were away and, most importantly, ensure that their dog was in great hands, got lots of attention, was taken on walks, etc. Since I had just moved to Arizona, it was time to bring back one of the activities I love most!
