I grew up with a dog at home (Pomeranian-Terrier Mix). I love all kinds of animals and convinced our mom to let us get hamsters at home. While in graduate school (doing PhD training) I worked with zebrafish and took care of my own betta fish. Towards the end of grad school I adopted a cat. Thanks to medical training, I'm comfortable with pets whether they're healthy or need some extra attention and care. While finishing up medical school, I also helped my friend raise and crate-train their Saint-Bernarnd puppy. With my pets, I always made sure my pets were healthy and happy. For example, for my fish tank I tested the water quality regularly, checked the temperature regularly (especially in the winter when outside temperatures dropped to below freezing), and cleaned the aquarium regularly. For dogs and cats, I've had experience with animals both young and old so I feel comfortable identifying if something is "off."
