Big fenced yard and lots of play!

Pet care experience

Our house is home to two young and wonderful rescues: Wilson and Lucy. We adopted Lucy very soon after our beloved yellow lab, Trixie, passed away in 2017. We thought we would wait for a longer period of time before bringing another dog home but as soon as we saw Lucy’s face we knew she was meant to come home with us. Shortly after adopting Lucy, we adopted Wilson. Wilson was a participant in the Canon City prison program for dogs. He is fantastically trained on a leash, but there is a bit to be desired when he is off leash! (haha) He is young and very energetic and we adore him. Lucy and Wilson are extremely active together and are often at play. They do stop periodically and chill out together on the back deck, or will take breaks and patrol the yard together. However, when we take them to the park or have other dog guests stay with us, Lucy and Wilson each seem to prefer playing with other dogs. They check back in with one another but they are definitely wonderful hosts in terms of sharing play. Because these two are so active together we have decided not to take very small dogs as guests. We think it’s just a better idea until they get a little older and calm down a little more. They are great with small –and even very tiny – dogs at the dog park, but at home we want all of our dog guests to feel safe and happy and for now Lucy and Wilson are just a bit too much energy-wise. We have had several older dogs stay with us since having Lucy and Wilson and all of these stays have been wonderful. Our two are happy entertaining themselves when an older dog would rather relax and observe. Our only disclaimer is that we are still working on their greeting behaviors. They get extremely excited when guests arrive and we are working on the barking and jumping. Just a few minutes into a guest arriving and things settle down quickly, but the initial greetings are very barky, loud, and high energy. Again, we are working on it! ☺ We would love to host your buddy or buddies (we accept two dogs at a time since our house is very small) while you are away. When hosting guests we have not yet met we prefer to schedule a brief meet-and-greet here so the dogs can meet one another and your dog can get a lay of the land. I know it also feels nice to have a visual of where your dog will be while you’re away. (We also have chickens but they stay in a fenced in coop area. Our dogs mostly ignore them.) Please feel free to contact us with any questions, and we look forward to meeting you and your canine family member(s)!

Maddie seems to have really enjoyed staying with Shivawn. I’ve had one other sitter where I had them watch her more than once, and the second time Maddie made it plainly clear she did not want to go. But when I dropped her off at Shivawn’s the second time she ran right up to the door and sat and stayed on her own when I left. I’m so grateful to have found Shivawn and would gladly trust her to watch Maddie again!

Shivawn was awesome! She was so receptive and accommodating to our big boy, that I felt very at ease about his stay with her and her family. She has an a great back yard with lots of puddles for Ralph to lay in (one of his favorite things :) ). They even pulled the two "guest doggie beds" together for him to lay in. My favorite thing was that she sent plenty of pictures and updates, so we were very reassured that he was having a fun time. Would highly recommend Shivawn and her gang :)

My dogs got lots of play time in while I was on vacation and were very happy. Shivawn sent pictures of my dogs every day. I would recommend her to anyone!
