Fostered over 50 dogs/puppies

Pet care experience

My experience with dogs really started three years ago while volunteering with Operation Kindness. I have always had cats and kittens, so I thought I would try fostering puppies because I wouldn't be tempted to adopt them. In August 2013, I fostered a pair of three week old chihuahuas whose mama had a URI. They still ended up getting the upper respiratory, which meant having to give them medicine and go for nebulizer treatments. I cared for them until they were adoption-ready by OpK's standards, but ended up falling in love with them and adopted them (are we surprised?). Since that time to the present, I have fostered mama cats and kittens, as well as mama dogs and puppies. Many have been strays, so I have had to troubleshoot parasite problems of all kinds, upper respiratory problems, and even bottle feeding orphans. All of these are under the watch care of the vets and vet techs, who have taught me how to do these things. Except shots. I don't give shots. Depending on how many, and how old the puppies were that I would get, I also tried to devote time to potty training them and teaching them simple commands by using positive reinforcement. Unless I am told to not give a dog a treat (and there are plenty of legit reasons), I like using the positive reinforcement with small treats for a much more fun learning experience. And when it's not fun anymore, we quit. I have recently completed what is referred to as "yellow dot" training, where I deal with large and giant dogs, unless I don't feel comfortable since I am fairly small. I have walked dogs up to 108#, but he was a fairly well-behaved English bulldog. I prefer to not have to train a large dog to behave, since that should be the job of the owner, but I don't mind walking large and giant well-behaved dogs, as well as the smaller dogs. Dogs are fun. I try to let every dog I come in contact with know they are loved and wonderful. My decision to adopt my large chihuahuas has been one of the best decisions I've ever made.

Sheree has proven herself to be an extremely capable and caring foster caregiver to many dogs and cats. She also has several personal dogs and cats of her own. She works very hard to give them good nutrition, comfortable and safe surroundings and lots of love. She adopted a kitten that we fostered who had extreme behavioral issues and has helped her become a sweet and lovable cat, no easy task. I have trusted her with my own animals and know she would provide conscientious and loving care to any animals in her trust.

Any special needs? Any triggers that would cause them fear? What favorite toys/foods? If more than one dog, any food or resource guarding? How would the owner want me to handle an emergency? Notify them first? Call their vet or another family member? No breed preferences--I like all I have worked with. This includes pit bull and staffy breeds, down to 3# chihuahuas.
