3 DECADES NURTURING CATS & DOGS 🐈

Pet care experience

Welcome to Castlefurbaby, an established, family-run pet service going on our 35th year in business. We are a family with older children who have been caring for dogs and kitties their entire lives. Ours is a well-established business that honors every reservation we accept so no need to worry that you will have a last-minute cancellation after you are booked. We offer luxury 🐈‍⬛ kitty 🐈 boarding although we also provide services for exotics as well. We love, nurture, recreate and bond with dogs and felines in our home or in the comfort of their own home as well --provided you are in our service area. Your dog is rarely crated & is recreated daily with walks in our 20-acre greenbelt. Depending on the dog we take him or her hiking to our favorite spots around the Pacific Northwest. Often we go to the shores of the Columbia River to explore the water's edge! To share your pet's experience with us we send you pictures & video of your dog enjoying family adventures! I have a long history taking care of animals, in particular dogs. I foster care rescue dogs as part of our community service & have worked with the local humane society rehabilitating dogs scheduled to be euthanized. I have helped train dogs for winter mountain rescue in Norway. We do ask you to bring a kennel for your animal as that is the safest way for dogs to eat, avoid fights and sleep. Some dogs may sleep outside kennels but that is on a case-by-case basis. As a general rule we keep kennel time to a bare minimum. We also active work on reducing reactive barking and many pet parents are pleased when their pup returns home with better overall manners (please read the reviews!) We can reinforce your training goals for you and perhaps suggest a few new ideas to help support you on your journey with your beloved animals. We do require an initial consultation prior to ensure compatibility. We need to know your pups' habits, history and daily routine to best ensure a successful stay. It's a thorough intake process, so please plan accordingly and bring immunization records. We have indoor and outdoor play areas, shuttle service (charge for travel), experience with special needs pets & very powerful air conditioning! In summer we encourage waterplay in wading pools on our patio. In the wintertime we have several areas with radiant heated floors which our geriatric guests find wonderful to nap atop of! We also set up orthopedic beds with plush comforters on our patio for geriatric dogs to sun themselves atop! I very much enjoy caring for older pups with specialized needs. Our dogs are all rescues. Our Rhodesian Ridgeback passed several years ago & we had to put down our beloved German Shepherd Sadie in spring 2017 so we are absolutely starving to love on your four-legged friend. A few years ago we rescued a Belgian Malinois puppy. Rosie delivered 8 healthy puppies in 2018. If you have other animals we can arrange for pet sitting in your home and we charge for travel. We pride ourselves on our communication and our safety record. We also offer two kitty sanctuaries. One is pure luxury with 400 square feet and the other is 150 square feet, equipped with all the comforts of home and plenty of windows to watch birds and wildlife. We provide daily brushing, litter boxes, toys and plenty of attention to keep your kitties happy and thriving. We just purchased a new One Fast Cat exercise wheel (see picture) and can help train your adult kitty to run on it for longer-staying guests. Our setup is ideal if you have multiple cats who want to share their own feline suite. First kitty is $25 per night and $15 per additional guest, per night. Cats from different families are not placed in the same kitty apartment so you can rest assured that your kitty will have privacy and tons of one-on-one attention and kindness. All kitties six months and older must be spayed or neutered, must be flea free and current on flea treatments, rabies and FVRCP vaccine. If you have a bonded feline and canine we can arrange visits and/or co-sleeping arrangements based on what they are accustomed to at home within reason. We donate regularly to environmental and animal welfare charities, which we've thoroughly vetted. Last year we donated to the Snow Leopard Trust, Oceana & the Center for Biological Diversity, headquartered in AZ. So your money helps heal the natural world and its denizens. Thank you! Professional pet care is not my hobby, it is my passion and my calling which I have answered for more than three decades. Please read my testimonials. 🐶 After three decades of professional pet care we have a proven safety-first system that allows your beloved pet to be recreated in a safe environment We provide professional pet care full time and enjoy what we do tremendously. References available upon request. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to read all this! After more than three decades of professional pet care I have a time-tested system to keep all animals safe. Animals are all fed separately and supervised during playtime. Feline guests are housed separately away from canines in private sanctuaries so as to provide a calm, low-stress environment. We also watch exotic pets! 🐰 🦊 We kindly ask that guests refrain from ringing the doorbell or knocking to help us maintain a calm environment. Please text upon arrival and we will promptly come outside to welcome you into our home! My family and I do professional pet care full time. I try to take one day off a week for self care and errands. I have an assistant who works 30 hours a week who has been with me for many years. We are a VERY established business. This is a long discussion but we have a proven track record of safety, fun and parents returning to happy pets! Enough said! I believe in thorough meet and greets to boot, which are critical to successful stays and meaningful relationships with pet owners and pet friends! Professional pet care is my passion. Please read our numerous reviews from pet parents to have some insight into the work I do daily with animals. Professional pet care is my passion and has been for decades. We've worked with hundreds of animals over the years, including severely traumatized rescues, medically fragile animals and other special-needs canines & felines. Animal care and nurturing is my lifelong passion. We have many stories to share with you over coffee or tea. Stories about elephants, calving season, monkeys.... One question we get a lot is about compatibility of different size and breed of dogs. We NEVER leave dogs unattended and we NEVER let small dogs socialize with big dogs unless there is direct supervision. So we will not ever leave your little 10-pound pup with a giant husky, for example. Safety is our top priority & our safety record proves the rules in place are successful!

Shell was amazing as always! We have had Shell take care of our fur babies many times and she is wonderful. I receive several updates and photos every day. My pets are loved and taken care of when we are gone which gives me so much peace of mind. She always leaves us a delicious meal to welcome us back home which is so appreciated. Shell is the best!!

This was the first time using Rover for our pups and Shell was excellent! She was very thorough in getting instructions for caring for our dogs and house, and respectful throughout her stay. She sent photos and videos so we could follow along. Our dogs were happy and we were able to relax during our time away. Shell even handled an unfortunate situation where the lock died on our house with composure and grace, despite being locked out in the cold for over an hour. She thought to reach out to our neighbors, and through teamwork, they found their way in. She is the one you want in your and your pets, corner.

Information Shell M. would like to know about your pet

Just a few necessary details for you to know.... 1. After years and years of professional pet care we have developed a system to care for your animal in the safest yet most fun manner possible. We require meet and greets so we can explain our safety-first system which enables you to relax while away knowing everything is being done to give him or her a wonderful, fun and stimulating stay in a safe environment. 2. We require all dogs to be current on vaccinations and have a recent flea treatment of the caliber that a vet would recommend. Please bring records to our meet and greet. We do require Lepto spirosis vaccines for canines as this zoonotic disease is appearing locally. 3. We require that all food and treats be labeled with your pet's name and feeding instructions inside a vittle vault of some sort. 4. We will talk more about pup-and-caregiver relationships when you come for a meet and greet. Please plan on 45 minutes to an hour for a meet and greet. Please bring your animal's immunization and flea treatment records to our first meeting. Well, that covers the essentials & thanks for reading!

A typical day

We've been in the dog- and cat-sitting business for more than three decades and joined Rover a few years ago. But here's what I know: 1. We will not just feed, water & walk your dog or kitty. We love & nurture your pet in all ways. Dogs love playtime & I have older children, plus my adult nephew who play and help with the animals daily. Put them together & it's pure magic. We'll send you pictures just to prove my point! 2. If you have a small dog you NEED NOT WORRY that it will be left alone with larger dogs. We know all the dogs we sit very well as they are almost ALL repeat customers. If we take a Yorkie for a weekend then we will not be taking a larger breed unless we know both dogs will be compatible. First come, first serve. 3. We love dogs of all sizes and breeds. We can take puppies and special-needs dogs, including elderly arthritic dogs. For dogs who love outings we plan family adventures that usually involve hiking and waterways. If your furry friend is more sedentary we can accommodate that too. Just like their human counterparts all dogs are unique and have different needs. 4. We do ask for a meet & greet. It's very rare that we turn an animal away but sometimes we might not be the right fit. If we do invite your pet to stay with us we ask that you bring an unwashed article of clothing that you've worn recently. Shirts work the best. This may sound weird but we've learned over the years that going to sleep with the scent of your best friend lingering is very comforting to our canine companions when they are adjusting to a new environment. 5. This is fair warning that most dogs and some cats are very reluctant to go home after staying with us. I cannot tell you how many times we've had to coax furry friends into their owner's cars in our driveway. While endearing for us it's always a little awkward. However, please remember that we pride ourselves on being canine & feline charmers & their reluctance is proof that they were loved & adored whilst in our care. 6. Excellent feline care in our home is offered in two "kitty sanctuaries". We have two kitty sanctuaries or "apartments". One is over 400 square feet and the other is 150 square feet, equipped with all the comforts of home and plenty of windows to watch birds and wildlife. We provide litter boxes, toys, an exercise wheel and plenty of attention to keep your kitties happy and thriving. Our setup is ideal if you have multiple cats who want to share their own feline suite. First kitty is $25 per night and $15 per additional guest, per night. We do have a two-night minimum stay for our feline guests. Cats from different families are not placed in the same kitty apartment. Please inquire.
