Hi! My name is Shelby, I worked as a veterinary assistant for 6 years prior to working at the hospital as a pharmacy technician. I’ve been pet sitting for about 12 years, I love getting to know my clients and their pets so they can feel comfortable knowing their pet(s) are in good hands while they’re away. During my time as a veterinary assistant, I specialized in canine behavior, and enjoy working with dogs. Though canine behavior was one of my favorite things to study, I’m an animal lover of all animals. Growing up as a kid we had rabbits, horses, dogs, cats, hamsters, a chinchilla, rats, a bird and fish. As an adult I have two dogs, my roommates have a sassy rabbit and a sweet cat. When I’m with your pet I’m always available by phone, and I’m more than happy to send you photos or FaceTime you with your pet(s). I know how hard it is to leave your pets with someone else so I do my best to make it a stress free experience for my clients. My dogs receive daily long walks (both on and off leash) along with a minimum of a hour of playtime with me. Along with that, we do daily training exercises or food puzzles to make sure they receive daily mental stimulation as well. When I have another dog with us, they receive the same high level of care that focuses on making sure their needs are met both physically and mentally. I will also ask you what a few of your dog’s favorite activities are, so we are sure to incorporate a few of those in our daily routine. I treat all of my clients pets as my own, I normally ask the owner if they would like to leave a signed and dated permission slip stating that if one of the animals needed emergency medical care, I have permission to take them to a clinic to get them care. I take the time to get to know the clients and their animals, if their animal has any special activities they enjoy doing, I try to accommodate as much as possible. I also ask the client to run through what a daily schedule looks like for their pet, so I can attempt to stick to it as close as possible. This helps greatly reduce any stress the animal(s) may have when their owner is away. If the animal has any special needs or is on a medication, I do ask that the owner share that information with me in detail so I’m aware and can meet their animal’s needs effectively. I have two dogs so if a clients animal loves other dogs, I’m more than happy to bring them into my home as they would be able to enjoy themselves. If a clients animal doesn’t enjoy the company of dogs, then the option would be to stay at their owner’s home and I would stay with them.
