Pet care experience
I have been a Rover Dog Sitter for 5 years now, and have had my own dog & cat for 10-12 years! I am reliable, and eager to meet you! I love all types of dogs - I think each has their own unique personality (I know my dog does!). I can provide attention to your dog as much as you (the owner) deem necessary, and I also enjoy being around cats and giving them love and attention (as much as they deem necessary as I know cats and dogs are definitely different in that regard! I feel I am pretty accommodating to owners and pets alike so please reach out if you concerns & questions, or suggestions! :) Personal Dog Experience: I have had a dog since I was 13 years old; he's a springer spaniel and his name is Ajax. Before leaving for college, and while home on break I have been one of his main caretakers. When he was younger I was the one who took him to training school and was the one who taught him basic principles of sit, stop, roll over, and how to walk next to me without pulling (too much at least!). Rover & Other Dog Experience I have dog sat for several family friends multiple times, which included watching a labradoodle, king charles spaniel, and labrador. Through Rover I have dogsat for several families and each of these experiences has been unique and very positive! Whether it was in Boston or here in Portland, I enjoyed spending time with these dogs, ranging from small to large! I usually prefer to stay with the dogs in their home, I find that gives the best outcome for the dogs warming up to me and being used to my presence - and eliminates the hassle of leaving and coming every couple of hours - plus I understand that that's what I am being paid for: to watch your dog in an environment and style that's personal! Rover & Cat Experience: I have two cats myself, one who is 12 years old and another who is 8. Both are very different in personality and for a long time were indoor cats. Through Rover I have watched several cats as well and very much enjoy being around them and giving them space when needed and showing love when they want it! :)
Reviews
Shelby was great. Would definitely use her again.
Shelby was fantastic! We came home to happy dogs and a clean house. She was in and out with no issues, sent lots of pictures. Couldn't be happier!
Shelby is a gem! She took stellar care of my two poodles and my home! She sent me lots of photos and kept me informed of how my boys were doing all throughout he stay. When I got home, my normally high energy poodles were calm and content. I couldn't ask for more!
She did an excellent job of taking care of our corgi, Rainbow. We will call on her again in the future.

Skills
Information Shelby V. would like to know about your pet
I would like to know if the dog is very territorial or if they are friendly by nature to strangers. I have no preference of breeds however I would prefer dogs who are not especially scared of strangers; I would be willing to care for those types of dogs after meeting them and being around their owners and the dogs together a couple of times. I have a dog who is afraid of strangers and I understand that they need time to adjust as well with their owner present.
A typical day
At least twice daily walks in the park or neighborhoods nearby, avoiding busy streets that could frighten the dog as much as possible (More walks depending on your request!) Playing with toys in a yard if that's possible. If I became very comfortable with the dog. I have a car as well!
