Certfified Veterinary Technician :)

Pet care experience

I currently work at an emergency vet hospital in the emergency and neurology department in Tacoma. Sometimes my job requires long hours, but it’s always to help animals, so it’s worth every minute. Prior to this job, I volunteered at many shelters and other clinics in Utah and Massachusetts. Animals truly are my life. My childhood was filled with multiple dogs and cats, and I learned from a young age that our four-legged best friends deserve not only affection, but respect and compassion. And yes, a level of sacrifice because you have to think beyond your own comfort. They depend on us for their security and happiness, and I want to be able to provide your beloved pets with the best possible care while giving you some peace of mind that your pup will be in the safest hands. I am currently living with my boyfriend and two cats, Chance and Hoffman, in Olympia. Those two cats keep us on our toes and bring so much joy to our lives. Again, there have been many amazing animals to have graced our lives and I never play favorites, but our family had a Husky named Asia when I was a young child, and she was the most loving, sweetest and the most loyal dog. She definitely set the tone for the rest of my relationships with animals. She had the most mesmerizing eyes and there were many times I got lost in them. She’d always be waiting by the door for my brother and I to get home from school, and that’s when I learned how dogs are so protective. When it came winter time, which was her favorite, we’d play outside for hours until we couldn’t feel our toes anymore. She’d let us bury her in the snow while we made snow angels. I learned that dogs really are your best friend if you let them. They want to make you happy and I feel I need to make them happy in return. During my work days, I am happy to housesit and when I’m off, I can offer drop-in visits and walks. I enjoy going on long walks, playing fetch in the backyard or laying around with the older pets. My goal is to make sure your pup is loved while you are away. Simply put: your dog is my dog. I treat every living creature with the utmost respect and love, and I’ve dedicated my life to making sure animals are healthy, happy, and safe in their environment and in their bodies. My many years of experience, dependability, and passion allow me to really connect with animals, and I look forward to meeting yours!

We used Shelbie for our three cats while we went on a long vacation. I was really anxious as two of my cats are very anxious and one is a Senior. She took time every visit to make sure they all got individual time and attention. Her updates were amazing. We will definitely be using her in the future! Even my most anxious cat took to her!

We were really happy with Shelbie's visits - she took great care of our cats (even the shy one loves her) and sent loads of pictures. We will definitely book with her again.

I don’t know what I would do without Shelbie’s help! She is great with my senior cat experiencing health problems. She gives him his medication when we’re not in town and puts us all at ease. Can’t recommend her enough!

Shelbie is seriously the best!! When our former long-term walker moved I was not looking forward to trying to find someone else to walk our dog three times per week - I am so glad we found Shelbie! She was immediately responsive and professional! Our dog, Billie, has a special collar that our trainer recommended we use because she used to pull and it can be a bit hard to explain - Shelbie met with us prior to starting scheduled walks and literally has not missed a beat since. She is logical and so easy to work with. We have a few different people watch our son in our home during the week and all of them say the same thing, “she is SO nice to Billie”; they always say they can hear her talking to Billie, telling her what a good girl she is. She send the BEST messages and photos of our girl -every time I get one while I’m at work I smile knowing our dog is having a blast. Our girl waits anxiously at the window for her wonderful walks with Shelbie.

I am a Certified Veterinary Technician, so I am trained in handling animals in different situations. I will take them on walks around areas there are familiar with until we get to know each other or simply sit by them until they can fully trust me.

Information Shelbie Z. would like to know about your pet

As a vet technician, I am well versed in animal care, and this expertise will carry over into the services I provide. If you’d like to set up a meet and greet, I’d be happy to make that happen. Otherwise, I’ll have a list of questions regarding your pup’s diet, medications, allergies, routines, schedules, likes/dislikes, general temperament, triggers, etc. The more I know, the better care I can provide. Most mishaps and accidents can be prevented if we know what to look for, so your input will be important. I have years of training, so your dog will be in very capable, loving hands. I also know it can be stressful for you leaving your beloved pet with a relative stranger, so I’ll do my best to alleviate any anxiety or worry. I will send regular updates via text, photos, videos, so you’ll feel like you were there.

A typical day

My home has had its fair share of animal love to it, so your dog will be most welcome and comfortable. We have a fairly large backyard that our dogs seem to enjoy. My neighborhood is safe and quiet, so it’s always nice to go on a morning walk. There are some nice fenced parks in West Jordan and I also like walking around the golf course with all the rolling green hills. Whether it’s getting tons of fresh air or cuddled up on the couch watching a movie, your pup will become a part of my family.
