We used Shayla twice. The first time was fine except for the fact one of our dogs needed medication at a specific time and she missed it by 3 hours due to oversleeping. Chalking it up to a one time situation, we booked again. The second time, however, was quite disappointing. When she was initially booked, she said Rover was her job and she was in college, so spent much of the time at the house doing school work. When I went to confirm her dates/times, she said she had an 8-4:30 job and couldn’t come in during the daytime. Understanding this, I made accommodations for someone else to do daytime care needs. Then, less than a week prior, she contacted me and wanted to take our dog to her house for care (not knowing her house/address, and having a dog that has anxiety, I declined). During her stay, she would not arrive until 5-5:30 each day, stay an hour or less, and then leave for 5-6 hours most days. She didn’t seem to follow the feeding schedule, and on Saturday, was over 4 hours late getting our dog outside and fed (he hadn’t been let out in 11 hours (he’s a 12# dachshund with a small bladder)). While we got some pics, she didn’t really communicate with me when I asked about the delay. I had also asked her to grab a perishable package upon her arrival one day, which didn’t happen until I texted a reminder because I could see the package still on the porch with our doorbell cam 45 minutes after she had returned). We came home to our back door being unlocked, and discovered our dog had peed at least 4x in his crate during her stay, which she hadn’t taken care of—he smelled like pee too (and some of it was dry so it hadn’t happen on the last day). I had left her a gratuity in advance (which I shouldn’t have done based on the care) and there wasn’t even a thank you. We won’t be using Shayla again, unfortunately. I think for folks who don’t care about timing of care, and whom have animals that can go out/eat significantly outside of a routine, Shayla would be fine. She is respectful of cleanliness and does seem to get along with the animals well. But if you have pets that require a more strict schedule of outdoor needs/feeding/medications, I don’t think Shayla is the best option.

Me and my husband hired Shayla for drop in visits while we were on our honeymoon and we cannot thank her enough for the fantastic job she did looking after our cats. She dropped in twice a day for a week and provided us with not only updates but photos of each visit, we really appreciated being able to “check in” with them during our vacation and loved watching them warm up to and become friendly with her during that time. We will 100% hire her again and highly recommend her!
