Lots of love & experience

Pet care experience

I’ve been pet sitting and dog walking since 2013, I have experience working with a veterinarian and with obedience trainers. We have our own dog (Korra) and cat (Raja, who has her own area separated from any dogs) and an 8 year old son who loves animals too. Before our current dog, we had a senior girl who broke my heart when she passed. I have experience with older dogs and younger dogs but we do require they be potty trained, non destructive and are not excessively noisy, especially at night since this is our personal home. I am 100% an animal person and I will take care of your pets like they are our own. When they are at our home they are part of our family, have run of our .75 acre fenced yard and most of our house. They receive as much love and attention and playing as they want. For drop-in visits, aka in-home pet sitting, I am there to feed and water your pets, walk them or scoop litter, and to give them attention, affection and interaction while you are away. I am happy to grab your mail, feed your fish, water plants etc but it might cost an extra fee if it adds up to extra time, so please be as detailed as possible in your request messages so I can give you an accurate price. The base price is for a single dog or cat for 30 minutes. I live in Pawtucketville in Lowell and am willing to drive about 20 minutes away maximum, as I usually have several animals to take care of. I generally service the Pawtucketville area of Lowell, Dracut, Chelmsford, and some of Tyngsboro area.

Shawna was wonderful. She made our pup feel at home and accommodated him. When I picked him up he was relaxed and showed no signs of stress. He was happy! Thanks Shawna. You’re awesome!!

Shawna was nice and her fenced in yard is great. However I’m not sure how much attention she gave my older dogs. She walks dogs in addition to boarding and has her own dog.

Shawna was great! She did two drop ins for us while Aria was recovering from surgery. She cared for her and sent photos to me of the visit with Aria. I will be sure to use Shawna again for any of our future needs!

Keita had a wonderful stay with Shawna and her family. She came home happy, her coat looked healthy, and she seemed well-fed and hydrated. Shawna communicated well, and was very prompt with her responses. She reached out mid-week with an update and some photos. Our family will definitely ask for Shawna to take care of Keita again.

Boarding We have a large, fenced in yard in a quiet cul de sac neighborhood. I have a dog Korra who loves company, and to play but is high energy. She will usually take cues to leave alone another dog who doesn’t want to play, but we do try to have a meet and greet before boarding to make sure they get along. We have a couple baby gates inside the house, to keep dogs away from the front door and to help separate during feeding. We never feed our dog and yours in the same room, for safety and because most dogs seem to prefer each other’s food over their own. Dogs will have lots of time outside in the yard. We have a 4’ chain link fence around the entire backyard. There is room to run, play, fetch or lounge in the sun. They are not left outside for long if it is very cold or very hot or raining etc. We do require dogs are potty trained, won’t jump the fence and will not be destructive of our home, furniture or our sons toys-mostly dinos and trucks. I will send texts/photos and let you know how they are doing. If I come to your home, it will be the way you left it when you return. I like to keep open communication via text so that you know how things are going with your pets while you’re away. I will usually play with them, pet them, make sure they have food and fresh water, and make sure they are safe.

Information Shawna M. would like to know about your pet

For Boarding Please tell me if your dog does well with other dogs or can be reactive, if they are okay with kids, if they are a flight risk (we can’t take a dog that will clear the fence etc) what is their level of potty training, are they crate trained, and if they have any allergies (for treats). How and where do they sleep at night? How many times a day do they need to go out? They will usually spend as much time outside as they want. We have a great yard! We always need their vet info or they can be brought to our vet in an emergency if yours is far away. We can not accept in our home dogs with very severe separation anxiety. If the dog barks and cries all night, or is destructive to our home, we will need to cancel the rest of their stay and there will be a fee for this. So please be honest and transparent about your dogs behavior and temperament before booking so that you will not have to come back and get them. Dogs with excessive marking, peeing and pooping inside the house (1-2 accidents is okay) will incur a fee. Dogs always get plenty of time outside to go to the bathroom at our house. Please be honest about marking, incontinence etc. before booking, as this is our home and not a kennel. Your dog will be part of our family while they are here. Your dog will be treated like our dog. We only take 1-2 dogs at a time, from one family at a time so it will only be our dog and your dog(s) to ensure their safety. For Walking / Pet Sitting Please let me know how your dog is on a leash if they will be walked on a leash. Please let me know if they are reactive to other dogs. Please tell me if there is a special parking situation or if you live in a large apartment building, if you have other animals like cats that I need to watch around the door. For large dogs, I cannot accept excessive jumping or leash-pulling.

A typical day

Boarding at our house, there’s lots of room for zoomies, fetch and playing in our large fenced backyard. There’s plenty of shade and the dogs love to run along the fence with the dogs next door. We also play inside, or relax and snuggle on the couch in the evening. In the spring-fall we are often working on our yard outside and the dogs love to supervise as we trim and plant and water.

Availability

For pet sitting in your home, if 3x a day, generally the times are around 7-9, midday and 6-7. I work around my sons school / summer camp hours so I might go before or after I take him to the bus. It mostly depends on where your home is located, I can give more accurate times knowing the location and dates. Boarding I am self employed so I do work at home too, but I have a flexible schedule. My husband also works at home so if you are a boarding your dog with us there is always someone home during the weekdays even if I’m out walking dogs. We may run errands so dogs would need to be okay on their own for 1-2 hours or crate trained. We are up around 6:30 and go to bed around 9:30. We usually feed about 7am and 5-6pm. Dogs can sleep in a crate and/ or their dog bed in the living room. We don’t allow dogs to sleep in our bed, but they are allowed to snuggle on the couch. We try our best to make them feel comfortable here and most dogs are right at home with us. Dog walking times and availability depends on my current dogs so please just ask. I currently do a route of east Lowell to North and Central Chelmsford.
