We Go Googly Over Doggies

Pet care experience

My husband and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE dogs! We've had five dogs over the last 17 years- sometimes as many as four as a time- and loved them all! We are actually doggy god-parents to four dogs! We lost our last two beloved doggies this year. We'd love to provide a much-needed home to new pups, but we're in the midst of a life transition and unsure of what lies ahead. I finally realized dog-sitting would be a perfect way to get our doggie fix! We have experience with all ages, sizes, and temperaments of dogs. Although we consider them "our babies", we do realize they are dogs and welcome their natural canine behaviors (i.e.butt-sniff). Basically, we enjoy dogs more than humans (no offense, I hope)! Although I don't have dog-specific medical training, I do have a medical background (EMT, Army Medic and Lab Tech). Throughout the years, we've gone through all sorts of situations- caring for a starving, literal rescue (on the side of the Alabama interstate) with every sort of infection you can thing of, anal gland expression, removal of porcupine quills, run-ins with bears and rattle snakes, skunk sprays, ingestion of potentially harmful substances, stabilizing a dog after being hit by a car, removing ticks- to name just a few! We've gotten awfully good at administering oral medications, taking rectal temperatures, and just being there to comfort a pet that isn't feeling so good. Although I haven't given injections to dogs specifically, I have given all sorts of injections to humans and if you show me the process, I'd be happy to administer the injection. If I notice anything (and I do mean ANYTHING) off with physically or behaviorally with your dog baby, (diarrhea, vomiting, lethargic, limping, reduced appetite, hiding in a room alone, etc.), I will notify you immediately for instruction and keep you apprised of their condition. I love to work, but due to a medical condition, I'm intermittently unable to maintain extended conversation , so a regular job isn't an option for me at this time. So, I'm home pretty much all the time (a bit of a homebody any way) available for anything your doggy's heart desires (unless I they want me to read them a novel)! Walking and caring for your pet won't be an issue and would actually do me good, too!

Shawn is the true definition of a dog person! She loves them and they love her! When she came to stay with us and hung out with our dog I was worried he wouldn't want to stay with us when she left. If god forbid anything happened to my husband and I we know Tucker would be welcomed with open arms by Shawn and taken care of better than ever! She would be a perfect fit for anyone looking for dog care!

I can't thank you enough. You are the best dog sitter we have ever had. We never worry when you are watching our dogs. Thanks again for all you do for us and our pups.

Your dog will be loved and pampered while staying with Shawn and her husband, Steve. They have been dog owners/lovers for most of their lives, and will care for your furry friend as if they were their own. Our three dogs love staying with Shawn and Steve and all the cuddling and attention they receive. I highly recommend Shawn if you are looking for a dog sitter that will take excellent care of your fur baby and keep them safe until you return.

Information Shawn D. would like to know about your pet

1. Your puppy's personality- any anxiety, separation, chewing issues? 2. Play preferences. 3. How much affection do they prefer? 4. How well do they get along with other dogs (so we know not to book together). 5. Do they have any aggression issues or other special needs? 6. What is your pups daily routine? 7. Does your pup have any medical conditions? 8. Is there any training you're working on that you'd like us to continue? 9. How often would like updates during your pups stay? We want their stay to be as enjoyable and stress-free as possible, for both you and your baby!

A typical day

We live in Continental Reserve, there is a big loop and several neighborhoods to walk the pups. I always tried to get mine out while it was still relatively cool. There is a dog park nearby we can go to if your pup enjoys playing with others. There's also an unofficial "dog park" with lots of green grass and sprinklers dogs love to run through. There is a lot of open desert, washes and hiking trails nearby that we used to enjoy. However, I suspect that's how my Lady caught Valley Fever, so I would be reluctant to walk dogs in natural desert unless they've already contracted it (or they're not sniffers). We can play whatever games they like (tug of war, fetch, barking at dogs on tv, wrestling); their wish is OUR command! If they're swimmers, we do have a pool and it has steps, so they won't be in danger of drowning. If you have a very small dog, we will always accompany it outside- although we've never had a bobcat jump the fence or any issues with my mom's small dogs getting picked up by a hawk, I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving them outside by themselves.
