We Can Be Best Buddies!

Pet care experience

THE SALTY DOG RESORT & SPA Your dog will love staying with us and becoming one of our best buddies! Hi, my name is Shari. My husband Casey and I would love to care for and play with your best friend(s) while you are away. Please, come visit and check us out! We have tons of doggie experience and are comfortable with all breeds, sizes, and dispositions. We prefer the small breeds simply because we have a small house and 3 small dogs. NOW TAKING DOGS FOR BOARDING DURING COVID-19 WITH LIMITATIONS: WE ONLY TAKE 2 BOARDING DOGS AT A TIME. NEW CLIENT MEET AND GREETS WILL BE DONE IN THE YARD. TEXT MESSAGE ME WHEN YOU ARRIVE AT THE GATE, DOGS WILL BE DROPPED OFF AND PICKED UP AT THE FRONT GATE. IF YOU HAVE SPECIAL NEEDS, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THEM LISTED ON YOUR DOG'S ROVER PROFILE. What is interesting about me? I hope to one day own and operate a five-star boutique/spa-style luxury hotel just for dogs; the perfect place for pampering pooches. Until then, I am providing that perfect place here in my home. Why do I want to be a dog sitter? I've had dogs and cats in my life as far back as I can remember. Growing up on a small farm in Nebraska, we had the typical farm animals as well as a Chihuahua, St. Bernard, Blue Heeler and a Toy Poodle. As I grew, I cared for several stray dogs and cats that came along. Living in the country, we rescued and fostered many dogs and cats that were dumped on the side of the road. They seemed to know we were a house of refuge. I moved to Seattle 20 years ago and since have rescued 2 dogs, Anni & Ginny and 2 cats, Samantha & Whisper. Ginny, Whisper and Samantha have gone over the rainbow bridge. Because of our loss of Ginny and Samantha in the same year, instead of rescuing another pet, we decided to do something different. We made the decision to foster and care for dogs that need extra attention while waiting for their forever family. We also love caring for pets that have loving families but will be without their humans for a few days or weeks. We currently live with Anni and 2 of her puppies, Missy and Alexei. We have the perfect location-- -Riverview ball fields & park, a fun place to walk -Nature trails for that long walk in the woods -West Crest off-leash dog park nearby DUE TO COVID, WE DO NOT GO TO OFF-LEASH DOG PARKS -a dog at every home around us -very dog friendly neighborhood -chickens (next door) -a visiting neighborhood cat (that's you Champ and Otis!) -large, newly remodeled, chemical-free yard -fully fenced in back yard with galvanized panels and 9" concrete base under ground Speaking of our yard, **IMPORTANT: FOR OUR PROTECTION AND YOURS, ALL DOGS MUST BE CURRENT ON THEIR FLEA TREATMENT AND VACCINATIONS, INCLUDING RABIES** I have a large, fully fenced, front and back yard, large back deck with dog access in the back door. There is a concrete driveway for bouncing or rolling tennis balls for fetch games. Our deck is fully fenced and gated shut during the night so the dogs can still get outside but not in the yard. **At the moment, I have some major remodeling going on in the basement, which, even though it looks messy on the driveway, will not interfere with the dogs playing in the yard or in the upper level of the house. ** Do I have experience administering medication? Yes. After having a diabetic cat, I am very good with injections. Also, I am an excellent pill-hider. Just leave Rx, vet information and instructions with me.

Shari takes such good care of my pups and I know they are treated like family when they stay with her. She sends frequent updates and pictures, and I can tell they are relaxed and having a good time!

Shari and Casey did an amazing job taking care of our girl Penny. You can tell they are truly dog people and care for animals. Penny was well taken care of and enjoyed her stay!

Shari was awesome! She took care of my 9 year-old dog for a week and gave frequent updates with photos. She obviously has a lot of experience with caring for animals. After receiving my permission to give it a shot, she was able to clip my dogs nails without drama -- not an easy feat for me OR for my vet, so I'm impressed! Thank you for taking such good care of Bella, Shari :) I will definitely be using you again if/when I travel in the future.

Skittles had a great time. Shari was responsive and flexible. We felt very good about his happiness and safety during our trip. Would highly recommend if you need a sitter in West Seattle!

I have a fully fenced yard and I am home to keep my eyes on them. We do have two crates so if necessary, we can crate your dog if you prefer. Our front gate is guarded on the inside with kennel panels to keep the dogs from leaving the yard if the gate is opened. Dogs being dropped off or picked up can go into the partition so they are not disturbed by the other dogs,

THIS HAS BEEN AMENDED DURING COVID: I have a questionnaire to be filled out by all owners prior to the dog's stay about disposition and care. I do require the last 12 months veterinary and immunization records. I will ask for a meet and greet prior to booking and will have the document for you to complete. When you have booked your stay with me, you will receive a confirmation detail packet per dog. During the stay, I complete a schedule of daily activities, including exercise, walks, dog park visits, feeding times, amount eaten and, if medication is administered, a record of time and dose given. DO I HAVE A BREED PREFERENCE? Yes, I prefer to sit the little guys. My house is very tiny so the room is limited. On the rare occasion that we do take dogs over 40 pounds, our rate does go up. Ask me about the rates prior to booking for larger dogs. I APOLOGIZE BUT DUE TO COVID-19, I AM CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE FOR PICK UP OR DROP OFF TO AND FROM THE AIRPORT: ***I now offer AIRPORT PICK UP AND DROP OFF SERVICE. This means I come to your home, pick you and your dog up, take you to the airport and bring your dog home with me. When you return, I bring your dog to the airport to pick you up and take you both home. Rate is $20 one-way ($40 round) within 20 miles of the airport.***

A typical day

What are the amenities here? During hot summer days, I bring out the plastic pool on my deck. It usually gets filled in the morning and emptied and cleaned in the evening. I have safe toys (which are washed often and refreshed with new toys every 4-6 months), small collars, 4 ft. leashes, small-medium sized sweaters, raincoats, and jackets, just in case the weather changes. I can walk up to 6 little dogs at a time, morning and afternoon, to the neighborhood park, the nature trails, or around the block. I have fluffy loungers and dog beds throughout the house, two large den-like crates with orthopedic mattress pads, three window seats with a view (of the street), and a large deck overlooking the grounds. I have feeding stations throughout the house for separate dining. I drive a Ford Explorer with a battery-operated fan in the back window and the back seats are always down flat (crates optional) for transporting dogs to and from dog parks, beaches, and the airport. All dogs staying here will be treated and pampered as if this were a luxury dog hotel...because it is. Here's where we'll take our walks ---DUE TO COVID-19, ALL WALKS WILL BE TO THE PARK AND BACK. WE DO NOT TAKE DOGS TO DOGGIE PARKS UNTIL IT IS SAFE TO DO SO.--- Riverview Ball Park is up the hill about two blocks from my house. Nature Trails are a block from our house and offer long walks. Westcrest off leash dog park is not far from here, for an hour or two of doggie socialization. On occasional week days, we like to explore the other dog parks in the Seattle area, such as Golden Gardens, Luther Burbank, Marymoor, Fort Steilacoom, Magneson, and Grandview, to name a few. Greenlake is a great place to walk on leash. Sometimes, we like to go to the beach at Lincoln Park or Alki. Where will your dog sleep? I have two separate, open crates, each with an orthopedic mattress pad & blanket covering for that "den affect." I have many dog beds around the house. Each bed is washed after every stay. Sometimes, if the dog is good and doesn't move around too much, my bed is a great place to sleep. I also have two dog mattresses with blankets and pillows on the floor. Most dogs prefer to sleep there. Time I'll spend with your dog I work from home and am here all day, every day. My husband is away from home from 7am to 5pm during the week but is here on most weekends. He seems to be a dog magnet and all dogs love him. Your dog will get that one-on-one attention (s)he craves from both of us. Time I'll spend with your...cat? Yes, I sit cats in your home but do not stay the night. I stay about 1 hour daily to sit with your cat and give lots of attention. While I am at your home, I change the water, food, and clean the litter box. I will even water your plants and bring in the mail for you, if you prefer, for no extra charge. Please send a request and tell me it is for a cat sit. I am most always available for cats. **A note to customers; past, present and future: Our business relies (and grows) on your positive recommendations and comments. If you are satisfied with the care your pet(s) received while staying with us, please leave a good review. Repeat customers, we know you like us, but let the world know just how much by reviewing each stay. Thanks!**

I work full-time in my home in a cute little office in the basement where the dogs are free to join me if they are quiet. My schedule is unique. Some weeks I have 3 days off. Some weekends I am working 12 hour days. I will let you know what my schedule is during your fur baby's visit, so you are aware. I am hands-free and can wander the yard if dogs need to be outside during my shifts.
