Pet care experience

Having always been an animal lover since I was a young child, I had volunteered at my local humane societies for all kinds of animals as well as watched pets for my family & friends. While in college, I worked for 2 dog daycares, the latter of which I received my dog behavioral and training certificates. (Also knowledgeable in most small pets such as rats, reptiles, hedgehogs, ferrets, rabbits, hamsters/guinea pigs, birds, etc. I will be honest with my knowledge of the specific animal, but am comfortable watching any kind- I love them all!) While working for these locations, I was tasked with: - Baths: knowing what shampoos to use for which coat type, breed type & knowing what substitutes to use for individual dog needs. - Walks: working daily to train and lead dogs into a safer and more pleasant way to walk for both dog and owner. - Brushing & Grooming: knowing which brush to use responsibly based on coat thickness to refrain from scratching or irritating the skin, avoid causing dry skin/ dandruff, & strategies to comfortably & painlessly detangle knots/mats, ensuring a pleasant, relaxing experience for our fluffy friends! (I am not trained in stylized grooming such as hair trims or styles.) - Health & Safety: understanding what risks, behaviors and body language to look for to determine overall happiness/ health. - Mental/ Physical Needs: understanding and working with special needs dogs, including amputations, hearing/sight loss and seizures (etc.) My schedule is extremely flexible and open- both early mornings and late nights! Schedule changes are easy for me to work around as well & I'm very understanding when unexpected changes arise. It happens! The only reason I cannot offer a drop off service to my home for you is because my apartment only allows 2 pets per unit (which we already have 2 cats.) However, I am more than willing to come to you! I am adamant about keeping my cats clean, groomed, and feeling their best & will do the same for your little loved one(s) as well, including nail care, coat care, eye/ ear/ nose cleaning, teeth cleaning, & any additional care they may need. Entertainment, stimulation, physical and mental exercises are great for a pets focus, trust and mood levels & I make sure to do this daily. (Certifications: currently refreshing knowledge courses and lessons to become recertified as past certifications have expired; includes canine CPR courses)

This is the second time we’ve had Shannon stay with our 3 pups. She is literally AMAZING. She keeps you updated daily, and is so good with the dogs. Our old pup takes tons of medications and does not like taking them. But Shannon is so patient with her and makes her feel so comfortable taking the pills. I wouldn’t trust anyone else to watch our dogs!

We've probably booked with Shannon about a dozen times now. Always a great experience. Provides wonderful updates and photos and makes sure our dogs get the most out of her visit with them.

Safety, trust & environment

I believe trust and communication must be top priority while looking after ones beloved pets! Every pet should be treated as an individual as no two are the exact same. This means that paying attention to specific needs and wants from both pet and owner is also a must! Emergencies and other unexpected events can happen in an instant, so being highly prepared both in past-training knowledge and instructions from the owner should be handled with the upmost care and thought. Grooming, exercise/ playtime, companionship, mental stimulation and health/ diet are everyday tasks I meet to give my Bombay felines the best life possible- everyday. I will be sure to treat every pet as I would my own beloved Bombay's.

Information Shannon G. would like to know about your pet

- Has the pet been through or currently going through training? - What, if any, health conditions should I be aware of and schedule for their medication - Does your pet have any fears I need to be sensitive to? (even minor ones such as hats!) - What is their usual everyday schedule?

A typical day

I love going nature walking- even with my cats sometimes! I love walking dogs down trails as it gives them positive mental stimulation and helps with confidence around the area. Neighborhood walks are also a great way for me to become familiar with an area as well as a great way to prevent dogs from becoming bored or too curious about their everyday locations. I also love to check around to see if there are any agility parks nearby as they are another great source of mental stimulation and physical health! I absolutely adore areas near the water, so if your dog likes the beach, I'm always game! Indoor play is just as important as outdoor play so I'll be sure to ask where their favorite toys are!

Pets and other animals have been part of my everyday routine for the entirety of my life! I have always owned at least one animal, as my life would seem to be missing something without an animal by my side. Through my training, pets and other animals have expanded my knowledge in companionship, responsibility, trust, communication and patience (among a long list of other qualities). These qualities have helped me to become an overall more well-rounded and understanding person!
