Vetrinary Assistant pet sitter

Pet care experience

I have experience with many types of animals, large and small. I am comfortable with dogs of all breeds and sizes, cats as well. I also work well with fearful or aggressive dogs and am happy to do what it takes to get more reserved ones to trust me. I am a 4 year veterinary assistant and can provide basic medical care/basic in home treatments (ie. In-home subcutaneous fluids, injections, medicate ect. If needed). I also care for pocket pets and most exotics, chickens and most livestock too. I bring my own animal first aid kit with me and have my own reliable transportation.

Shannon was very responsive during her stay. We really appreciated her enthusiasm, energy, communication and flexibility while watching our pet. Kudos Shannon!

Both dogs were happy and healthy when I got home. One of my neighbors met Shannon while she was walking the dogs and texted me to tell me how friendly Shannon was and that she was obviously taking good care of the dogs.

SHANNON IS INCREDIBLE!! We have a crazy Boston Terrier, one eyed cat, and a three legged dog - needless to say a very needy household. And I am a helicopter dog mom but I didn’t even feel the need to bug her because she was soooo good at sending creative personable updates every single day while we were gone (4 nights). Everyone was happy and healthy and the house looked just as we left it. 10000 stars.

I am able to walk dogs small-large, and I am flexible learning your tools/methods as well. I have a car I can take them in if they are to be walked at a certain park/route/ect. I am saving money to go to school to become a dog trainer, and I'm good with basic commands on most dogs. I have had "Fear Free" certification for working with dogs and cats in a vetrinary setting, and apply my knowledge and skills there in daily use with my own animals. One of my own animals has epilepsy and I have experience dealing with epileptic animals and getting them medication in the event if a seizure. All of my animals are current on vaccines and preventions and I have good biosecurity knowledge and practice from working at a dog rescue, so need to worry about me bringing anything into your home! ***Please note due to liability reasons, I will NOT take dogs to the dog park!***

Information Shannon E. would like to know about your pet

Let me know if your dog has any special needs or behavior I need to account for. I have experience with fearful/reactive dogs and can handle large, strong dogs, despite my small stature.

A typical day

I love to work with dogs in both mind and body. I love to set up activities that challenge them mentally, in addition to providing physical exercise. Examples (puzzle toys, treat balls/towels, "Sniffaris") I am a fairly active person myself and am able to do 5+ mile walks. I frequently go to Metamora-Hadley park and walk the trails there. If your dog prefers a more leisurely lifestyle, I am available to fill in for couch snuggles and relaxing. I enjoy teaching/reinforcing tricks that your pup knows to keep training and consistency up!
