Animal lover with Vet experience

Pet care experience

Through my past pet sitting experience and schooling in veterinary science, my love and affiliation with animals came to fruition. I have been professionally involved with taking care of animals since the age of 15 when I began working for a pet sitting company in the Chesterfield area. 2 years later I attended a Vet Sci program through my high school and afterwards worked for a veterinarian. Shortly after school, I adopted my own dog (Juneau) from the Richmond Animal League and we have been best buds for the past 8 years. My fiance Patrick is also a huge dog lover and our little family is completed with his awesome Siberian husky named Shadow. Patrick also enjoys helping with walks and sitting when he can, so your pet will always get double the loving while they are in our care. My reliability and passion for all pets makes me a perfect choice to take care of your furry family members.

Shannon has always been terrific with Ruby! With her experience and great attitude, I know I can trust her with my dog when I'm away. Thanks so much for taking care of Ruby!

Shannon is always amazing! We knew that our dogs would be in good hands while we were out of the country for a week.

I was skeptical at first having someone I did not know staying in my house and taking care of my dogs. But after the meet and greet with Shannon my dogs and I approved. Shannon kept me updated throughout the week about how the kids were doing. She sent pics during her stay and all three were happy. My house was well taken care of while Shannon was there. I will definitely book her again.

Information Shannon D. would like to know about your pet

We have no preference on breeds, but we would need to know how they get along with other animals. If a client would like to board their dog with us at our home, they will be staying with two other large dogs who are friendly. We can do an initial meet and greet with our dogs and our clients dogs when they are first dropped off in a responsible manner. This can take place at the nearby dog park or the Carillon behind our home. A few other basic things we should know are as follows: -Do they have allergies or special medications? -Does your pet have any food or toy aggression? -Where does your pet normally sleep and what is best in a boarding type situation? -Do they have separation anxiety that can lead to destructiveness? -Does your pet need to be crated when left alone in the house? We have extra crates if so -Does your dog need to be let out mid day? We work during the day but can usually come home or to a client's house on lunch breaks if need be. Any other special information or instructions can be shared at anytime during booking.

A typical day

We live in the Carillon/ Byrd Park area and love walking or jogging around the nearby parks and neighborhoods. Our own back yard is large and has plenty of room for throwing tennis balls or playing with frisbees. The James River park system trails are a short distance away and we always love hiking around with our doggy friends. Barker Field dog park is less than a 5 minute walk from our house. If the owner is comfortable with allowing me to take them to the dog park, I can. My fiance and I are very active and if your dog requires a good bit of exercise, they will certainly enjoy staying with us! When taking care of senior dogs or animals with special needs, we will always ask the owner what type of activity is best for their pet. Owners should know that I do work during the week 7-3:30. Between Patrick and myself we can normally work out leaving on our lunch break to let dogs out to potty. If your dog needs to be let out midday just let me know ahead of time so I can make sure that we can work something out.
