Pet care experience
Hello! I am dog mom to two fantastic boys, Staniel, an 12yr old Boxer/Bulldog (55lbs) and Orion, a 2yr old Am Staff/Boxer/Rottie/Bulldog (65lbs), and a spitfire female, Wayah, a 4yr old Staffy (50lbs). I also have a female grey tabby, Astra (12yrs old). I have often said I wish I could be a stay-at-home pet mom, but since I can't, I wish I could text my animals throughout the day to see what they're up to! I have been a volunteer dog walker at the Wake County Animal Center since November 2017, and in the 5 years I have been volunteering, I have racked up over 2,000 hours. I love walking dogs...all breeds, shapes, sizes, energy levels, and demeanors! I also received a certificate in the Becoming a Dog Trainer program from Wake Tech. The class taught me how to read dog body language, and how to ensure that I am listening to what your dog is trying to tell me at all times. When your dog(s) and I get to hang out, we'll go on walks, they’ll get the opportunity to burn some energy but also make sure they are afforded the opportunity to take in all the smells to add enrichment into their days. Loving scratches, pets, and praise are free and abundant!

Walking dogs at the Wake Country Animal Center over the last 5 years has exposed me to every type of walker there is, be it: shy/timid, anxious, energetic, puller, jumper, lunger, bouncer, leash-reactive, dog-reactive, squirrel/bird chaser, no leash manners, pancaker, afraid of trucks, does circles around me, goes in and out of my legs, and of course many who walk very well on a leash. I have learned how to handle each dog where it is in its leash walking, and I have even assisted a few clients in making their dogs better walkers.
Information Shannon C. would like to know about your pet
I prefer to do a meet and greet in your home in the days before our first scheduled walk. Because every dog is different, learning your dog’s idiosyncrasies and talking about your dog’s specific needs is essential to ensure a successful and enjoyable time for all involved.
A typical day
Depending on your location, our walk will likely be in your neighborhood. I offer whatever type of walk you and your dog need. Is the main purpose of the walk to burn some energy? Great, we’ll focus on a fast paced walk, stopping only to potty. Is the main purpose of the walk just to get outside and potty? Great, we’ll stroll the sidewalk at your dog’s preferred pace, stopping to sniff and explore at your dog’s leisure. Do you want a mix of energy burning and mental stimulation? Great, we’ll make a few stops to take in some of the smells but also keep a fast pace in between sniff breaks.

Availability
I am a small business owner who is lucky to have an amazing staff so that I’m not needed at the shop as much as I used to be, and therefore I have a fair amount of free time, and I love spending that free time with animals!
