I love the companionship of dogs! I love their open affection, especially when it is unsolicited. If it is a dog who has been through a tough time or is skittish, I like being the rare person they can open up to and allow to pet and be friendly with them. Above all, I love positive reinforcement and reminding the dogs all day that they are good/beautiful boys and girls who deserve everything in the world. Not only do I love to spend time with dogs, I also love to study them! Reading up on the needs and abilities of different breeds is one of my favorite hobbies! I have a white scaredy cat named Paul Ginger (four years old). He is a loner and afraid of everything. When I have watched my family dog Penny (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, 3 years old) on previous occasions he has hung out in the bathroom and had a great time. Penny is the first dog I have had around full time, but I have been around the dogs of friends and family members my entire life.

Shane is a lifesaver. My 7 year old Australian Shepherd and I moved to the Upper West Side earlier this year and I was worried that she would go crazy living in this city after having a lot more space to run around in back home. I definitely needed someone to walk her since I regularly get caught up at work. Finding the right dog sitter/walker was a must because I just worried about her (Nellie) being cooped up all day. I'm grateful to have met Shane, a genuine dog lover and excellent caregiver. My dog absolutely loves him and that's saying a lot since she's been a little uneasy ever since we moved here. He's a natural when it comes to taking care of my dog, and I will definitely use and recommend Shane in the future.

Shane has been walking my dog for almost 3 years. He shows up in any weather - rain, snow, blizzard, heat wave and always on time. He truly loves Penny my King Charles Cavalier, he's a true dog lover. Shane is kind and gentle and caring. Also funny lol. Maria M

My sole requisite is that the dog be friendly. I have a love for all breeds, but soft spots for cavalier King Charles spaniels, Yorkshire and Western terriers, French bulldogs, daschunds, boxers, schnauzers, beagles, basset hounds, shih tzus, and pugs above all. Friendly labradors, retrievers, and German shepherds are also wonderful animals, and great for hugging.
A typical day
My apartment is right near the Hudson River, which I am sure your dog would love. Most dogs in New York City seem to enjoy their neighborhoods, and I see lots of dogs near my work in the East Side walking down the avenues having the time of their lives. I like to tailor our activities to the dog's needs based on their breed, temperament, and routines. Lap dogs will be snuggled, active breeds will get all get all the attention and activity they need, etc. We'll spend lots of time sniffing around the neighborhood, and there's a good chance we’ll hit my favorite spot: Central Park!
