Pet care experience

My husband and I have had dogs as part of our family for 30+ years (along with one golden human daughter ;). Each dog has been a rescue and each one has taught me something new and precious about the human-pet bond. I have done both personal and professional pet sitting off and on for the past decade, including overnight stays at the pet’s home, dog walking, cat drop-ins, and administering oral medications. I have extensive experience with a variety of dogs and cats, from extra large to pint-sized, from super-chill to high-energy, seniors to young bucks, and always enjoy the process of gaining their trust. Additionally, I have professionally cared for chickens, freshwater aquarium fish, bunnies, and small reptiles.

Shana is great! She is communicative, flexible with my schedule and always super sweet with my excited pup. I already have more walks scheduled with her.

Shana is so kind and pays great attention to detail. She took wonderful care of Jelly and made sure she received plenty of love. Definitely recommend her care for your fur babies.

Safety, trust & environment

My first priority is the safety and well-being of your furry child. I rely heavily on detailed instructions from pet parents in order to provide optimal pet care. Candor is very much appreciated! Completion of your pet's Rover profile, including a photo, greatly helps to ensure all details are tended to (and/or feel free to include a screen shot of any pre-written instructions).

Information Shana M. would like to know about your pet

Please share the following physical and emotional needs of each pet via Rover: allergies, likes and dislikes with respect to food, human touch, interactions with others, triggers i.e. loud sounds, activity/feeding/potty/crating/medication schedule(s), veterinarian info, a local emergency contact, and anything else you think wise for a petsitter to know. Scheduling a meet-and-greet at your home prior to booking ensures that we are a good fit and sets up your pet for a successful and positive petsitting experience. Any house and neighborhood details and tasks for me to take note of include any of the following: “no-no” pet areas in and outside of the home, trail maps for pups, mail pick-up, garbage day, automated devices i.e. kibble dispensers, lights, digital thermostats, sprinklers, Roombas, security keypads and/or cameras, and scheduled maintenance i.e. gardeners or grocery delivery.

A typical day

Every pet is unique; what we do together relies heavily on parental input. That said, a typical visit will likely include a customized walk, engaged playtime, and lots of loving (if your furry child is into that sort of thing). Sharing your pet's favorite toys and activities, places to walk, location of treats, water/food refills, leashes, poop bag refills and disposal, trash bags, towels, wet wipes, etc. will optimize quality time. As a detail-oriented petsitter and an intuitive listener, I keep owners informed with a daily afternoon/evening update, including pet photo(s), via Rover. For multiple-dog families, I am happy to leash-walk each of your dogs one at a time for safety reasons for pets and people (exceptions made for small breeds that walk well on leash). Also, let me know if your dog likes car rides, dog parks, or interacting with other dogs/animals; should these be a source of anxiety for your pup, please let me know in advance.

Availability

I update my Rover calendar availability on the daily. Depending on my current roster of clients, I can make one to two trips per day for dog walking, kitty refreshes, medication administration, playtime, etc. Please know that I am able to do overnights only if your pet is entirely comfortable being left alone for 4 hours during the day as this ensures optimal quality time and availability between existing clients within my service area. I typically leave my calendar open during overnight bookings for 1 dog walk and 1 drop-in for new and existing clients. Booking at least one month in advance for overnights during summer and winter holiday seasons is highly recommended. Should we decide that we are a good fit after an initial meet-and-greet, confirming your booking request on Rover will lock your reservation on my Rover calendar and prevent double bookings.
