Each situation is different so I am willing to make exceptions, but generally, I do prefer that the dog (or especially if it's more than one dog in a household) be on a chain or in a crate when I arrive. Dogs are amazing and are willing to protect their homes at all costs, so I try to avoid the dogs feeling threatened by my presence when their owner isn't there to assure them. If your dog was feeling protective of their home, it would be easier for me to calm them and reassure them while they are still restrained opposed to them meeting me at the door as I came in. I wouldn't have time to calm them safely, and they could lunge. And if I am caring for more than one dog on the medium/large side who could have the potential to get protective and territorial, I prefer caring for them one at a time so there is no opportunity for their pack mentality to kick in. I see my own dogs as perfect angels and trust them completely, but I have also seen them fight with each other over food and attention. The takeaway is that dogs are still animals at the end of the day - unpredictable in nature. As much as I trust my dogs, I logically couldn't say that they would NEVER hurt someone. I would say the chance is almost zero, but there's always some chance. I feel that concept rings true for all animals. It only takes one time to leave permanent scars, so I would prefer to be safe rather than sorry.

I will care for your pet how ever you ask me to. If your pet is low energy or shy, I can just take care of their food, water, potty time, and be on my way. If you would prefer, I am happy to take the full half hour to include playtime and/or cuddle time. As for walks, I will walk them exactly as you instruct me to. I know some dogs can't handle the heat very well, so I am always mindful of making sure the dog is comfortable and still enjoying themself, as well as making sure they have fresh water when we're done.
