99 dogs, 561 walks, 14 board/sit

Pet care experience

Anyone who walks into my condo immediately knows how much I loved my dogs. I owned a German Shepherd (nine years) and a Labrador Retriever/German Shepherd mix (13 years). When both dogs passed away and I decided to buy property, every place I liked did not allow dogs. So I joined Rover (and Wag) in March 2019 initially just to walk dogs. I'm a full-time writer/editor and thought this would be a fun way to enjoy four-legged company and get some exercise, too. However, 99 dogs later (561 completed walks; 10 Rover dog boardings and sittings; and four other dog company boardings and sittings), this has become my second job. After more than a year, I finally convinced my condo association to allow dogs in the building in November 2019. If you'd like to see some of my dog walking excursions, please visit Shamontiel(dot)c-o-m and go to "Dog Walking & Sitting." I took a break from Rover after adopting my own dog on Juneteenth 2021, but I missed some regulars so I decided to continue dog walks and dog drop-ins.

This is our second time working with Shamontiel, and both times we’ve come back to a very happy puppy. Our dog has medical issues that require twice daily pills and a strictly managed diet, which Shamontiel has been careful to follow and checks in if there are questions. She sends us a daily update including pictures. When she needed to be somewhere a little earlier than we were arriving home (a couple hours only, which she told us up front), she dropped our dog off at home and even brought in our mail and packages. We’ll definitely work with her again.

I felt good leaving my senior dog with Shamontiel. He is afraid of fireworks so she made sure he was ok over the 4th of July. She was great with all my instructions and the meds my dog had to take. Great communication and pictures too. I would highly recommend her!!

Your dog will be well cared for but if hiring for in-home you’ll receive a LOT of messages about non-essential topics like household goods. Like paragraphs. It was a little annoying tbh. Overall Shamontiel is kind and compassionate, you shouldn’t worry about leaving your pet with her as they will be well cared for. However, if you only want updates about your pet and want a more independent feel you won’t get that

Shamontiel took amazing care of our small dog while we were on vacation for the holidays! She sent lots of pictures and was very communicative with questions and updates. She (and her family!) really took our dog in and cared for him like he was their own. We will definitely rely on Shamontiel any time we go out of town or need a dog walker!

Information Shamontiel V. would like to know about your pet

I used to think German Shepherds and Labs were my first choice. But after walking 99 different dogs (almost all different breeds), I have no preference.

A typical day

I want to earn my 10,000 Fitbit daily steps, so active dogs love me. I joined the Dog Aging Project in 2021, and my Hound mix is amped any time there are new training activities. If it involves peanut butter, Milkbones or ear rubs, she is all in.
