Zula is our a 2 year old adopted dog who has a chronic medical condition. We knew this when we adopted her and though we will have to manage this problem for her life-time, she is a joy to us and a valued member of our family. In late July, we planned to attend our yearly 2 week Family Camp. Our eldest son, whom we had planned to take care of Zula was unexpectedly unavailable. We thought about our youngest son's friends that we've known for years and decided to ask Sebastian if he would be willing to stay at our home and take care of Zula. He was agreeable and came over to spend time with her before our trip. He was gentle, mindful and playful with Zula which she responded to with great enthusiasm. One of our concerns for being away was that she is terrified of fireworks. Even though we left a full week after Independence Day, the fireworks went off nightly. Sebastian kept Zula close and used music and soothing words to help her through the awful sounds of the sky rockets. Next year we are getting doggie earphones and would be happy to have Sebastian stay with Zula again!
