Living vicariously through pups
Pet care experience
By day: college-educated (biology and environmental studies at Lewis & Clark, community health education at PSU), active, easy-going, instructions-following, toddler nanny who misses her dog of 9 beautiful, tail-wagging years. I’m used to messes, mischief, poop, power struggles, holding limits, and being an effective communicator to creatures who can’t verbally respond. I can read body language (human and canine) like Ira Glass can tell stories. By evening/night: dog buddy, belly rub provider, walking partner, leash holder, waste disposal attendant, treat dispenser, and giant cuddle lover. I work from 8:00-5:00 Monday, 12:00-5:30 Tuesday through Thursday, and am otherwise available for your pup or kitty. I’ve had animals in my life since I was born, and understand the nuances, respect, and love of caring for a dog. Finding a balance of physical and mental stimulation through games and outdoor activity, setting firm limits with behavior, and providing the cuddles and praise make loving and caring for dogs a really beautiful part of being human.

I don’t have breed preferences or any breed that I will not care for. Before sitting, I ask for any and all contact information for the dog’s human companions, veterinarians along with their hours, nearest or prefered emergency vet clinic, feeding times and frequency, any medical issues or medications (dose, timing, and frequency), typical energy level, how frequently the dog eliminates, if the dog is up to date on shots, temperment with other dogs on and off leash, and standard walking distance per day. I write all instructions and information down by hand and carry with me at all times.
A typical day
Walking is a guaranteed service, unless your pup has some mobility problems and you’d prefer a more indoor arrangement. Sidewalk and turf (dirt/grass mix) terrain. I love Portland for having so many dog parks, and time spent at the park based on number of other dogs, your pup’s temperment(s), and their energy level.
