Loves dogs and works from home

Pet care experience

My family has had a dog (with the exception of short periods in between dogs) my entire life and I was often responsible for feeding and taking care of the dog. As an adult I have almost always had a dog in which I was the prime caretaker (with a 5 year hiatus during grad school). My background is in biology including a master's and PhD. During my research I have taken care of many animals as a part of research projects (mostly frogs and lizards) so I am trained to be aware of important changes in behaviors and signs of pain/distress/etc. I have also had salamanders, frogs, and lizards as pets. I have never taken care of cats (I am allergic) nor any other mammals, birds, etc.

Scott and Ying were amazing! We got daily updates on our dog and pictures. Our dog was so happy being with them. They took him on daily walks and lots of play and cuddle time. I will be using Scott and Ying anytime I am out of town.

Our dog loves going there and they treat him very well. Quick to respond and has been very accommodating with flight delays/schedule changes.

Safety, trust & environment

We have a large fenced backyard (although the fence is waist high and will not contain big jumpers). We currently have no pets, so there are numerous dog beds for your pup to lay on including one in my office so I can keep an eye on her/him and keep them company while I work (and vice versa!). We allow our dog on our couch and one of our spare bedroom beds to allow maximum cuddles (our master bed is very high, too high for many dogs). As I say above, I think walking is an important activity for dogs and I love taking dogs on walks if your pet is fit for it. They will get at least 2 walks per day and often more when I take breaks from work. Our home does have a lot of stairs so if your dog has mobility issues that might be a consideration. Our neighbor's dog has a tendency to bark during the day, so if your dog has anxiety around barking dogs or tends towards barking/defensive behaviors we again might not be a great choice. There are no other pets in the house and we have only had a dog in this house previously

Information Scott W. would like to know about your pet

Please let me know about any behaviors or physical considerations to help me take care of your dog. Our house has a lot of stairs and it's not possible to avoid them so it's helpful to know of any mobility issues. Both of our neighbors have dogs that are out often and tend to bark at the dogs we have (loudly) at times. If this is going to upset your dog or cause barking please let me know. I work from home often with multiple meetings per day so if your dog barks a lot at home please let me know. Our fence is somewhat short in places. If your dog will jump and escape that is important information. Finally, there are many dogs in the neighborhood and folks come to our neighborhood to walk Le Grande Cannon Blvd, if your dog is not friendly with other dogs please let me know so I can make sure we are all safe on walks.

A typical day

I like to take dogs on multiple walks per day. I also jog a lot in the mornings and I love taking dogs with me to get them exercise! We live right near a trailhead to the Mt Helena city park so I often took my own dog on walks into the park to provide lots of stimulating smells and doggie meet and greet experiences. My wife and I hike a lot and will take dogs on short hikes with us to give them new smells and experiences, if safe for your dog. We have many dog toys and will happily play fetch but also hide and seek with treats to help stimulate your dog, especially if it's too cold to play outside.

My wife and I love pet cuddling in the evenings and playing games with our previous pets and we can do the same for yours!
