Trustworthy, Reliable, High-Touch

Pet care experience

I work from home (or from anywhere my laptop goes, actually) as a freelance graphic designer who's always looking for an excuse to step away from the computer and out of work mode. Engagement with dogs is my very favorite reason to do so. Because I enjoy frequent travel, I’ve chosen not to have a dog of my own. This leaves me to seek my canine fix in other ways. For many, many years, I’ve earned the trust and confidence of numerous friends as their dog’s favorite uncle, famously putting a pet’s safety, comfort, and happiness ahead of my own. My street-level condo is in downtown Eugene—strategically chosen because I love to get around by foot. I log sidewalk miles most days, with or without one of my favorite dogs beside me. Need housesitting as well? I’ve got loads of experience (including references), own and manage two long-term rental properties, and have been an AirBnB Superhost for many years. That’s to say, I know lots about caring for real estate and what makes an outstanding house guest worthy of being invited back again and again. Always happy to discuss whether I’m a good fit for your needs and situation. Reach out anytime. Not available for repeating/open-ended weekly care services.

Scott did a great job watching our dogs! During our initial meet and greet he did a great job of asking thoughtful questions, and learning the routine of our dogs. We make an effort to give our dogs lots of exercise, and our dogs seemed like they got lots of attention while we were gone. He sent plenty of updates and we knew our dogs were being well cared for. We would definitely hire Scott again!

Scott is reliable, trustworthy, thorough, and very thoughtful. He is an excellent listener and provided our pup, Pipi, with the attention and care she deserves. She loves spending time with him! We highly recommend Scott.

I'm a walker. With rare exceptions, I'll walk a dog in my care four times per day, 30-50 mins per walk. Walk time is THEIR time, so I'm committed to moving at the dog's pace—whatever that may be. I sleep a bit later than average and am up later at night so prefer a dog who can roll with that routine. Unless you request otherwise, dogs are welcome on my furniture and in my bed. In your home, your rules and requests are respected and applied, of course. Dogs in my care receive frequent touch, engagement, and praise. In order to provide the highest quality of care and one-to-one attention, I prefer not to host or walk more than one dog at a time. Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis. When hosting at my place, it is *sometimes* necessary for me to leave a dog indoors and unattended for short periods. For this reason, and out of respect for my close neighbors, visiting dogs need to be comfortable and quiet when left alone. For overnight stays, I'm happy to provide photos and videos to ease the separation anxiety you surely experience.

Temperament when encountering new people? Temperament when encountering new dogs? Dietary restrictions? Command words or phrases? Notable fears or aversions? Favorite games or toys? Feeding schedule? Protocol when leaving dog home alone? Emergency contact? Veterinary contact?

A typical day

Unless otherwise requested, typical walk schedule is 9AM, 1PM, 5PM, & 9PM. In the intervening hours, I'm usually working on the computer, preparing meals, or doing housework. My condo has an open floor plan so I'm rarely out of your dog's sight. Cuddle and scratching breaks are frequent. Shades are adjusted on large, street-facing windows so he/she always has a view of any outside activity.
